Sat Nav "Google" enhancements
Help I think I'm going crazy
Shortly after I took delivery of my F11 I was driving through central London and lowered the scale of the Sat Nav map in (I think) perspective mode and suddenly the screen changed to a 3D image of the surrounding buildings al la Google maps - Really cool. At higher map scales weather icons appeared on the map showing the state of the weather in different parts of the country also cool. The problem is that I cannot repeat this despite adding every setting I can find to do with points of interest, maps and Google search etc What am I doing wrong? I can only assume I missing the bleeding obvious but it's alluding me. Thanks in advance... |

just go into views on the sat Nav, put it in perspective view , and if you ever travel in central London you will get this effect, I don't know what other cities also have it, but experiment. |

I am jealous, would love to see a screen shot of it. I have read all about it but havent seen it yet. No where I have been in Germany gives the 3D.

Sorry I haven't been clear. The problem is that when I drive in London now, I can't get the 3D to work (in perspective view) - is there a setting I need to check? I'm worried there's a fault. I'll look on YouTube to see if there are any clues
Thanks for the replies |

I too have lost the weather display. When I first took delivery of the car, if I zoomed out on the nav screen, there were weather icons for the whole of europe.
Now they are not visible at any scale. I've tried all the different map views and it's no go. The BMW Online stuff is all working fine - just lost the weather display on the nav screen. Very odd.. |

Weather Symbols
Weather only appears with scale set to 10 miles or more and with the navigation guidance on (plus the options set to weather - but I guess you already did that).
I don't know why you can't see the weather without selecting a destination but this is definitely how it is set up in my Pro Nav. Weather also shows if you have the grey traffic mode and a destination selected. POI Symbols are scale selective too. For this reason I tend to have the splitscreen showing a smaller scale than the main screen. |

Ah, that could be it. Odd behaviour to only display the weather if you have a route planned but I guess it saves bandwidth by only downloading it when you 'need' it!
I'll give it a try tomorrow. Cheers! |

Does selecting guidance also fix the 3D buildings issue originally raised? I don't have any of this imagery in rural Sussex so perhaps one of the city-based owners could confirm. Thanks FF

With the map up on the screen, hit your options button on the center console and look through those options.

was in newcastle (UK) last week and the 3D buildings were very impressive in the display....nice to see different images appear for landmarks, for example there was a nice little render of the tyne bridge, looks like the system has more detailed images for well known landmarks in the city you are in. think i was using the system at 100yd or less scale to see all that.
one comment....when using the 3D buildings option it can actually be a bit of a hindrance in perspective view as sometimes the guided route just ahead of you is hidden behind the damn building....not a problem unless there's also a junction or two hidden back there as well....not a complaint just an observation |

Would also like the 3-D Perspective view with North orientation if this were possible.Seems more logical to my mind to see which direction I'm travelling relative to North, rather than having to look for small compass to check North orientation

With the Nav on the main screen hit the options button and you then scroll down to 'settings'. Click and you get the sub-menu with day/night mode, grey traffic mode, satellite images and weather.

To enjoy the 3d view you have to untick "traffic/gray map" in the settings menu.
