I feel terrible for any person who owns a higher millage N63 out of warranty. Sure these motors produce great power and are fun to drive, but all this FI tech, combined with long OCIs and advanced electronics are killing the reliability/longevity of these engines.

EDIT: Where the hell was BMW with a Service bulletin like this for the N54s!?!?!?
That would be me, but I do all the maintenance myself. I have changed 4 injectors myself already (have the diag computer to do it). not so bad, but yes the tech is killing these cars.

I wrote to BMW Canada about this Campaign/TSB but they said there is nothing outstanding on my car. Seems like this is just in the US so far but i'm sure its coming up north soon. I hope!!

For this very same reason - risk of timing or injectors issues, I have extended the warranty on my X5M. At this point, I am waiting for a manual Golf R to be available and I will probably trade this in for that car! It seems ridiculous but the concern of these problems is killing the objective of owning this car.

Let's see if they campaign with a similar customer care bulletin for our X5M engine.

I ran a search for service or warranty campaigns on the BMWNA site and nothing showed up for my VIN - corresponding to the S63 engine in a 2011 X5M.

Guys, I have received my car back after nearly 2 weeks and I the burnt oil smell inside the cabin got worse. Don't know if they even test drove the vehicle before they send it back to me. Also, the air pressure on my front passenger tire was only at 25 psi.

It will be going back soon. I have an effectively worse car than when I dropped it off.

This is BMW of Fairfax in VA.

I would like to get some opinions form the group. My car is currently in the shop for an unrelated issue now and the adviser asked if i would like to keep it there to get the recalls done.
I am wondering should I keep it there or wait a month or two before they go in and check the recall items.

Does it matter a couple a months from now with more miles. Also my warranty is up in 200 miles. Is there any benefit with them doing this work while the car is still under warranty?

i had this, tracked it down to the plastic vent valve that connects to the oil seperator, intake, before and after the turbo. the clips get brittle and break.
this caused the returning oil to seep out the seal onto the head, pool up and run to the back out of a drip hole on to the exhaust.

Also the Vacumm pump seal could be gone. I fixed both. lol!

What kind of BMW swag did you get?

I got a little teddy bear wearing a sweater with a BMW roundel on it and an 8 gig flash drive shaped like the key fob. The flash drive is cool, but you need to use a jumper USB cable with it.

so according to this post it is a REALLY bad idea to buy a used n63 engine car ?
Unless it's a certified or very slightly used one, right?
I'm currently looking for a 5gt, the 550gt one. looks like a really bad idea.

Not necessarily... sounds like they fix it for you even if it's out of warranty, give you a loaner while they fix it, so what's the problem?

Stopped at the stealer today to have them top off my oil. My car seems to burn a quart every 2-3K miles. After expressing my concern over how much oil this engine eats I asked about the service bulletin......I got a blank stare then the SA went over to a computer and said nothing was popping up. I pulled the SB number off this thread and gave it to them. The SA came back and had me schedule an appointment for later this month.
Didn't mention anything about the gift or loaner or equal or higher class.

Its on their dealer system.
Anyone on the service side has access to it (cant post it here due to access terms and conditions)

Just quote
"SIB 11 16 14" (Timing Chain)
"SIB 11 06 14" (N63 Customer care package)
"SIB 61 30 14" (Battery change)

If he cant find it get his boss.
Its right there on their regular access system

The local dealership service department is a little small for the size of the dealership. Took 10 days to get a battery in a previous 328... One time they told me they couldn't help with a flat tire despite my purchase of the wheel and tire package. Just want to be ready to help them as best I can because I know I will have to

I took mine in today. My SA told me the battery swap issue was going to be at EVERY oil change. Has anyone else heard this? Even if they fix the engine, no way am I spending that on maintenance at every service. Crazy.

Correct
N63= every oil change
N63tu= every other oil change

I think someone posted the bulletin.

Its just a customer satisfaction preventative measure while the car is under warranty.
You dont have to change it when out of warranty unless you are having problems.

A good charge from a Ctek charger every now and then will prevent most battery issues. They are cheap, easy to get (Amazon ect) and used by BMW dealers worldwide.
