Downpipes 550i

Now that I have my valve seals sorted out
I like to install down pipes on my 550i
Can someone tell me with experience what is my best option.
I was thinking just to gut out my down pipes
I was thinking open pipe I just open pipe no difference when I comes to buying after market downpipes.
I don’t want to have check engine light on all the time. I do know I need time that out.
I don’t want to add any more HP with tune I just need check engine light gone.
Can someone tell who can do this for me.
Thanks

I’ve personally never gutted mine and I’ve never used hi-flow catted DP’s so I can’t speak on gutting or Active or AR Design or Evolution. Getting around a check engine light on CL DP’s is going to be hard to do from my experience. I tried the bungs/CEL delete kit and I never figured out the formula. 1 never gave me issues but the other 1 gave me a CEL every few weeks. So I went with a tune and threw those puppies away!

I have gone through a couple sets of DP’s unfortunately though. ARM had terrible fitment, so we got rid of those immediately after a failed install (maybe it’s better now but they were a good 1-1/2” off.

Initially I wanted to go with VRSF but at that time we were seeing major shortages on everything nationwide during early COVID days and VRSF said they were out 2-3 months and I couldn’t wait because my turbos were being shipped so RacingDynamics sold me a set that they claimed were for an N63……. but they most definitely DO NOT belong on a 550 (maybe they fit the X5 but I will never recommend these and I threw them away b/c I didn’t feel comfortable selling them to anyone). After about 6 months they kept giving me O2 sensors faults, on the drivers side the downstream O2 was literally against the firewall and was impossible to work on. I replaced the O2’s with Bosch the 1st go around, didn’t help at all so I bought a set of Geniune BMW O2’s and still the same faults. After talking to Purcel w/HPE he sent me a set of Heatsync DP’s and I haven’t had an O2 fault since.

I’ve heard VRSF have good fitment and people tend not to have issues so they seem to be a good choice, however, based on my experience I would have to recommend Heatsync if your going for kittyless. The fitment was perfect, I could not be happier.

I know you said you don’t want extra HP right now, but that is the easiest and best way to get rid of CEL in my eyes. I’m sure you could have it tuned out with no tune for a decent price or go with a stage 1. I went with Heatsync on my second tune, again couldn’t be happier.

Just my opinions from experience, everyone is entitled to their own if it differs from mine b/c I’m not interested in debating with anyone haha. Good luck and I’m sure YOU’LL be happy with whatever choice YOU make on YOUR car. Hope it helps.

I would reach out directly, I just checked their page and they are selling a set (pic below) and also hi-flow catted. They offer intakes, DP’s, turbos, coils, turbo coolant lines, DV’s, catch cans and even brakes. Plus Purcell can find you what you need (he got me a Walbro LPFP as well). I would personally just reach out and let him know what you are looking for and he can get you all taken care of.

I'm about to get a set of catless DP's from RVG performance they, unlike VRSF, have a tab like the OEM cats that help secure the DP's. hopefully they have great fitment, i think some of the N55 guys use their DP's.
