Not only will you be honoring your Dad's pride n joy. You will be keeping his passion alive.
Plus you get to drive a nice car and treat your Mom like a Queen in a car she must be quite familiar with.
My Second Dad had a1972 GTO Judge. Kinda wish we had that car now. A guy called him 30 years after he sold it asking Q's about the car. It kind of told him he had a special car at one time. It would be cool to have now.
Just to enjoy occasionally.

Once again I'd like to thank each of you for the lovely posts here, your messages, your thoughts, and your condolences. That so many of you would take time out of your busy day to post and/or look at dad's obit page speaks volumes as to the character of folks who frequent this forum.

On behalf of me and my mother, thank you a million times over! She is completely beside herself with the outpouring of love, prayers, thoughts, good vibes, etc., from forum members. I keep her posted regarding this thread.

I can never repay your kindness but please know that we appreciate each and every one of you.

Anytime you can inject a Seinfeld reference into a conversation, I approve! Nicely done, sir.

I appreciate those words more than you'll ever know. I just hope I came close to being half the man my father was.

There is one thing I forgot to mention. Usually around 90-100k mi it is recommended to replace water pump and thermostat. If it goes out you will need to tow the car. There are some owners that got more than 120k mi but why take that risk. If you plan to drive longer distances it's good preventive maintenance. Also, BMW updated pump design to make it more robust.

It would be cool to get a full size cardboard cut out of our Dad's and put it in the seat beside us. It might freak Mom out when you pull up though.

It would be a neat gesture but I'm pretty sure seeing a cardboard cut-out of Dad in the passenger seat might just give my mom a heart attack (or she'd run screaming while speaking in tongues)!

so very sorry to hear about your father 😞❤️
at the same time it sounds like he lived
a long, wonderful life and wish your mum well!

my father is 80 and has been having health problems. A few weeks ago I had to call him an ambulance and have him admitted. He also had Covid. He's been released now and is at home—recovering but I am helping him with his health a lot these days. I worry about him a lot.

I guess I differ with many here and say I'd probably sell it, unless he specifically wanted you to keep it and drive it.

But the sentimental side is strong and I am a sentimental person—I don't think I could drive my fathers car after he is gone. I think it would make me feel too much. Too heavy and hard. For that reason alone I'd say sell it to someone who will take care of it and enjoy it like he always did.

Wishing you the best and sending love to your family!

Good advice. I had no idea about this but my water pump lasted 8 years/205,00kms or 127,000miles; car broke down suddenly and had to get towed.

thank you for verifying this info and sorry for the inconvenience. It is always a good idea to research single point component failures on a model to minimize risks. what model vehicle?

Another annoying part are disa valves for those that have them in 3 stg intake manifold. They can get ingested by the engine. This is an issue since e46. The valves are made of plastic and fail over time. They should be replaced by 100k mi max.

When I replaced them on my former e90 330i at 100k mi one of them failed and had to inspect the engine.

Np. Apparently, it lasted longer than it should according to the dealer and I got use outta BMW Assist.

My car details are near my name.

Apologies in advance for bringing up this thread but there's no sense in starting a new one. Many of you have continued to send me emails so I thought I'd provide a quick update.

This morning was bittersweet. Mom and I drove dad's car to the local county clerk's office and put the car in my name. We then had a leisurely breakfast and talked about all kinds of stuff. We've been quite busy lately settling financial affairs, giving things to charity, a local men's shelter, our church, as well as family and friends.

I'm sad that it's no longer in his name but absolutely proud to have it under mine now. I've saved more than enough money to have the work done listed in my initial post, as well as some of the other work many here have suggested.

I'd like to again express my deepest appreciation and admiration for each of you who took the time to email or post here. Although I've never had the pleasure of meeting any of you in person, it feels as if I can reach out, post here, and get some great advice.

Just remember, it may be registered in your name, but is always be your father's Bimmer. Just like my father's truck. It may be in my name, put it's Pop's truck. Cheers.
