SAT gear shifter swap on 2015 535 m sport

Good afternoon all....1st time poster here. I have a 2015 f10 535 m sport (no paddle shifter) and added sport + via coding. My question is, can i plug and play the new SAT gear shifter without any additional coding? And also what part number is compatible with my old gear shifter? I read certain year have different pin connectors... i really love the look on the shifter with the leather cover..i've seen a 2016 f10 shifter at a junk yard and wanted to know if it can be swap with my 2015..thank you all in advance.

The shifter is a direct swap; did it on our 2012. As both years are the LCI, the shifter should be a direct swap, no extra coding needed. Were you to add the paddle shifters you would need to code them in. I did that too.

I don’t believe you need to code the paddles. They should just work once a steering wheel with paddles is installed. However you do need to code the car by updating the FA to add 2TB and remove 205 option on a couple modules including the cluster. Without the added coding you won’t see the S1-S8 in your cluster when in sport mode. There are a few other thread about this so do a search and you’ll find the whole process

I had to code mine to work with sport & sport+. They did "work" but would not hold the gear; it would automatically upshift when it wanted. Kind of how the paddles work without moving the shift lever to the left.

thanks, i ordered the shifter with the leather boot for my 2015 535 m sport, one in a better condition than the one you linked on ebay P/N 61319296906. i really just hope its a plug and play. am planning in the near future to get the steering wheel with the paddle shifters and do a straight swap.

i'll keep you posted when i do the swap. once again, thanks for the input.

Should be. As addy said, you will need to code in 2TB and remove 205 in the VO; easy peasy.

I currently have 2013 luxury line, have coded 2tb, but have also owned 2013 535i m sport with 2tb, brother also has 2015 X6 n55 m sport with 2tb. The factory 2tb shifting is much more sporty as in bolt riffle action, or more bang sound during shift, or aggressive hard shift which I can't duplicate just by coding. I know many say there is no difference but I certainly feel it.

There is literally no difference in the car what so ever beyond the shifter and coding. Same exact transmission as supplied by ZF, same exact everything else. I've had these discussions with ZF engineers and aftermarket trainers and I speculate I'm one of very few if any here that has blown a 8HP apart and put it back together again alongside ZF trainers. The car sets the line pressures for the transmission via software request in the Mechatronics valvebody.

What you "feel" can be a number of things including differing adaptations, it could also be in your head but it most certainly is not factory vs. retrofit physical difference.

I know what you are saying, but I have experienced it first hand with 2013 535i M Sport package, 2015 X6 35i with msport package. I just test drove my borther's X6, feels more aggressive during shift vs my 2013. My car feels smooth during shift.

My wifes F25 X3 35i (which is factory 2TB) always felt more "aggressive" up its upshifts compared to my 14 535i, and that is attributed to the AWD system, not the transmission itself.

Again direct from the horses mouth of ZF's international training team BMW's Sport Automatic Transmission is a software change only and the transmissions are completely identical.

Using a factory diagnostic tool like ISTA reset the adaptations on your F10 and then go beat on it a bit. You'll find it will change its shifting behavior right off the bat to be more aggressive and rude if that is what you ask of it.

I understand the transmissions are identical/same, but I am just talking about difference in 2TB from factory vs 2TB coding yourself. I had the G30 540i M Sport as a loaner few weeks ago, shifted much more aggressive. I will try your recommendation

I understand what you're getting at, its just not something that pans out for discussion when you understand whats going on behind the scenes.

If you remove 205 and add 2TB to the vehicle order, then have ESYS carry out vehicle reprogramming it is fundamentally indifferent from the manner it is configured and encoded at the factory level.

The new G30 you drove has the 8HP50 in it, which is ZF's 2nd generation 8HP unit for the inline 6 BMW's like the B58. Technologically a whole whole lot has changed, there are no linear comparisons to be drawn there.
