I'm thinking Sohisto Grey is a serious contender now as well.
Jeez - going to end up spinning the bottle on this one! Last edited by BMW3FXD; 05-19-2011 at 12:55 PM.. Reason: spelling |

Good point about the "meanest" The 5 is almost a bit of a muscle car look anyway so black does add to it. I think the second black photo is a different car from the car in the other three black shots - pretty sure it is Carbon Black and shows the difference to Jet Black in natural light.

Funny with the black. It almost looks better in pictures than it does in person. The other colors aren't like that.

Space Grey -- Highlights Shape & M Ducting
Nice set of pictures, which should assist others who face your dilemma.
I would reiterate my vote for Space Grey. Your Space Grey side profile image illustrates how that colour highlights the F10's shape, with contrasting lighter and shaded areas. I suspect that's why BMW used SG in brochures and TV ads. As has been suggested above, with dark colours the aggressive shape of the M-Package air inlets tends to be lost. The effect is clearly shown in your images. Sophisto Grey looks interesting, provided you get at least twenty sunny days annually. Perhaps best reserved for Spain or Arizona. Alternatively, if you go for Black or Sophisto, you might consider rigging up some appropriate backlighting using LED strips from the current Audi parts bin. That would highlight the M ducting and help ensure rapid lane-clearing as drivers spot the menacing look in their rear-view mirrors. |

For me, space grey is the best color for all recent BMW models. It looks the best in pictures and in person. I dislike black and white as colors on cars.

I would have loved black, but having had a couple of black cars in the past and knowing how much work goes into keeping them clean, and how bad they can look after a couple of years of rushed cleaning, I went for space grey and love it....

M Sports still seem pretty rare on the road here in the UK but saw a Titanium Silver today driving in my home town. As a result that one is definitely out. I think its back to between Space Grey and Black.
Intersting idea on LED strips Bandini - haven't seen that look before! |

My family was with me yesterday when we saw a Space Gray 550i M Sport. All four of us unanimously agreed that it is not only beautiful in person, but the color I should order. Pictures do not do it justice. I'd seen Space Gray on other BMW models, and was impressed with those as well. On the 550 M Sport, it really does highlight the lines, the front end air intakes, etc. In a word, classy.

I drive a sapphire black...and its oh-my-god-SO-beautiful-and-muscular when its come out of the car wash. My wife finds it funny that I stand at the window and look at the car when its gleaming. Absolutely heartbreakingly beautiful
However as others have said, its a b*&** to keep clean - spots appear too soon, esp after rains. I also live in an area that is somehow a little snotty about washing your own car yourself (a passerby asked me if I run a taxi service when they saw me cleaning the car at 930pm at night!!!) - so its a £7-13 bill everytime I want to ogle at the car. |

Washing your own car is problem for your neighbors?
If you enjoy washing your car tell them to take a hike.
