ECU's that store mileage
Hey guys, does anyone know which modules are responsible for mileage accuracy/check?
I’m having some issues with the cluster I purchased, at first it was fine and read my correct mileages of 32,206 but after coding modules and flashing DME and gsw, more coding, it seems to be going up now.. I’ve noticed it as it keeps creeping up to 33,000 and it’s at 33,020 at this time. The mileage keeps going up slowly each time ignition is turned on, I have not driven the car in 4 weeks so it’s never moved! Any help would be extremely appreciated! |

I took the eeprom chips from my oem cluster and moved them over to the other one, I have no hardware/software to zero out the units so that’s the only reasonable solution I could come up.
Brand new oem cluster is way too expensive. |

With all the struggles I went through in the last month to get the M5 Cluster to work and then get the DCT shifter to work with it without zero errors, now the EEPROM chips were bad. I mean who'd have thought? Lol

lol glad you got it sorted out slobo7x, that's awesome!!
I just want to put it out there since it wasn't brought up here- on modern BMWs, the cluster is VIN-coded. It WILL often work when you replace it, but the mileage indicator will have a red/ orange dot next to the readout. This is what indicates to a BMW tech that the cluster has been replaced and mileage could be off. In addition to that indicator dot, the cluster will rack up miles faster than usual. I could be wrong on the figures but something like for every actual mile it adds 3, and for every ignition cycle it adds 10 miles. This is why when- for example, if you want to upgrade to a 6WB, you first have to have the 6WB virginized, then programmed to your VIN. Once programmed to the VIN of the car, none of the above happens and it works as intended. OP was able to get around this it seems by swapping the EPROM chipset, which is great he was able to! You will not always be able to do this, so keep this in mind when upgrading gauge clusters. There's my friendly PSA for the week. Tune in next week for more ya'll! lol

Good info there!! I was told the cluster was virginized and it has 0 miles and no VIN, I plugged it into my car and VO coded it and it never had a temper indicator dot.
Oh well, I think I got 700 miles extra then it should have but you can't roll them back now. Car has been sitting for 4 months, so that's far less than if I had been driving it. |
