error 118002 & 118402

Hey guys.

I've been having problems with my F11 (2012, XL20, N20B) ever since I bought it used, and the other day the drivetrain went out and it became undriveable. (The engine will idle for 10 minutes from instruction)

The parts I have replaced so far are
-Valvetronic Actuator
-Timing chain and guide
-before & after oxygensensor
-Camshaft sensor
-VANOS Solenoid Actuator
-All Injectors
-All Plugs & Coils

But when the engine warms up, the error (118002 & 118402)
and the engine stalls with misfire in all cylinders after 15 minutes of starting.

I am going to replace the high pressure pump, tank vent valve and ignition wiring harness, but I suspect that the DME is broken.

Do any of you who have experience with this have any solutions?

Well, what's clear is that the engine is getting more fuel than air - there's a DME diag function to verify the mixture. Could be many things - check the air system and vacuum lines for leaks.

Has the car been mapped/modded?

That's a similar issue I had with my 550i recently. Turned out to be the high pressure fuel pump. I got very similar misfire and mixture error codes. Not sure of that's your problem, but worth a look.

I believe ISTA+ can perform a test on the fuel pump, but haven't tried it myself. Might be worth exploring to rule it out.

You could be a number of things but based on the first two faults you had I would think you had either crankcase ventilation hoses are cracked (common), fuel tank ventilation sensor. I had a similar issue on my N63/550 which was the crankcase hoses but on my old 528 I had to replace the fuel tank ventilation. Both cars ended with limp mode, both fixed after replacement.

The second list of faults is probably because the original fault and the car trying to protect itself. Have you looked for any cracked hoses? Many people break them during spark plug changes, I know I did twice. But really, check those out if you haven't already. Good luck!

Thanks to all of you for your quick responses!

>Breach
The car is stock and no ECU tuning has been done.
I have new pipes from the air intake to the throttle valve and all vacuum hoses.
The MAP and MAF sensors have also been replaced.
I haven't done any work on the intake and exhaust. If the turbine is broken...I will give the car away.

>spielnicht
The high pressure pump has been ordered along with the Camshaft Follower and gasket and is waiting to arrive.
I have not replaced the low pressure pump yet, does that have anything to do with the failure?

> 550bye
The crankcase ventilation hose had a broken O-ring and I replaced it, but the fault error did not go away.
I also replaced the crankcase with a new one.
The tank vent valve has been ordered and is awaiting arrival.
The charcoal canister has probably never been replaced, should I replace it?

Yeah, I did it when I did mine. Since you are already in there you might as well.

I apologize if you already mentioned having ISTA, but if not it might not hurt to have BMW or a good Indy to complete a diagnostics. I think BMW charges around $185 for the world class inspection. That way they can tell you exactly what is broken or you can find someone local and troubleshoot it with ISTA (or buy the cable online and download the software and do it yourself for free).

Then you can complete the necessary repairs afterwards yourself for a third of cost. Hopefully you get it all fixed.

Hello, Guys!

I'd like to report that I've replaced some parts that were bothering me for the time being.
-Fuel high pressure pump
-Fuel vent valve
-Ignition coil and injector power cable

After replacing these parts, the engine ran well for half a day, but in the evening it started to go bad, and at night it lost fire and could not run...

The error that was displayed was
12B505 Oxygen sensor heating element defective
12BD60 Oxygen sensor open circuit virtual earth
118002 fuel-air mixture too rich

Is the cause of the malfunction the Oxygensensor?

I have replaced the Oxygensensor with a Bosch one twice, but the available Bosch ones are often fake, so I will order a Denso one next time and try to replace it.

I'll report back when I replace the parts!
