My 6WB MFID retrofit

After having read up on shawnsheridan's 6WB retrofit and looking at others I knew this was something I had to do for myself. The base instrument cluster is woefully boring, and the 6WB unit is just badass!

As we all know these units sell for 1800-2000 online. After talking to some friends, and making a few phonecalls I was able to secure a BNIB unit for a great price and I pulled the trigger.

Base next to 6WB.

After installing it I used his instructions to code the unit with ESYS, you can reference them here:
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=700327

Upon initial power up the unit showed 000000 for just a second and adopted the vehicles mileage. However I had a red tamper dot. I was really concerned about this and wondering if my cheap BNIB unit had been plugged into another car before.

Whatever the discrepancy was however went away after the car was allowed to go to sleep and the cluster woke up from a cold boot.

I went out for a test drive and put it in Sport+ for a launch control test :-)

I found that my newest iteration cluster (PN 62106821074) also had shift lights when in manual mode that rise up and around the tachometer!

I absolutely love this modification to the car, much thanks to shawnsheridan for paving the way and answering all my odd PM's about inane details.

I don't think I could share my parts connection on this one. I know an individual high enough up in the distribution/manufacturing supply chain to cut out numerous middle men (IE BMW and the dealer network) that all add their own markup... but they aren't supposed to do direct sales.

Thanks for sharing your experience, any limitations once installed, i.e. for future main dealer software upgrades and all?
Looking into doing the same for my 2011 F10, when I ordered my car back in 2011 the option was only via a pack with heads up display and couple of other features at nearly 4k, so left it out

No issues I've noticed.

It is my understanding to program the car at the dealer, IE with ISTA-P in one round you would have to swap the basic Kombi back in.

It only takes a few minutes to swap the clusters back and forth so its not a big deal.

I updated my car to the latest integration level before carrying this out and I doubt it will ever see full car programming for the rest of its life. Individual modules can be updated as needed if such need arises.

Very nice! So did it end up putting the correct mileage on the odometer?

Thanks for the feedback, I am bit put off with the fact that the sport display i.e. digital speed showing in sport mode is only possible with the Sport mode as I hardly use it due to traffic and state of the roads, the comfort mode from what I discovered have the normal dials showing in digital!
Not sure worth 1900 Euros (1300 for 2nd hand), maybe the Head Up display accessory option instead is more interesting -

Yes, it adopted the correct vehicle mileage no problem. The only issue was the tamper dot that resolved itself after the car was allowed to go to sleep and wake back up.

I imagine there is a way to code the cluster to be in sport mode all the time, but I like having the option. Its also nice to have the reminder that you're in sport mode.

You can code the cluster to display a digital MPH/KPH in the "analog" gauge face as well, although its not big and centered.

There should be a way to code it to show 220MPH as max speed instead of 160. Need the team of Hackers to ploughing through which value to modify..
