AC Intake Location

I've seen a bunch of tutorials online showing how to fix the odor that comes from the air vents. I got a can of Lysol spray, but I'm not sure where the AC intake is located.

Is it below the wipers?

The cabin filters(this car uses 2), if you feel the need to change it, is located under the glove compartment on the passenger side. Part #64119272642.

Also, if I replace the air filters, will it fix the wet sock smell whenever I turn the AC off?

It will if the smell is coming from the filter. There are ways to remove the smell if it's still there after changing the filter. A carbon filter sometimes help more than the paper filter.
Search youtube.

I think he means the intake prior to the filters.

Should be passenger side below the windshield. Look for a grille/grate of some sort.

That part is a drain. Not 100% but that's what it looked like when I saw it on my car. The opening from the windshield trim goes into that.

Can anyone confirm if we snake a tube down the center vent and spray the cleaner though there to get to the A/C could, I'm thinking that's where the smell is coming from, probably a mold build up .

Hi AldoNY

Did you find the cabin air intake vent. I've got the same issue on my f10, nasty odor from vents, but only when the AC is off. When turn on the AC there's no smell out of the vent at all. I'mthinking the same, to spray a can of Klima in the intake hose. Might even try Tilex mold mildew cleaner.

Has anyone here had any success with this issue?

Thanks!

I have not had the smell but I have had to replace the blower for my 550i.

The intake for AC is on the front blower housing just below and to the left of the passenger side brace in the video. It is covered with a piece of dark large cell foam. This area goes the blower fan. You can spray something into this area and hope that it goes to the source of the smell but the only way to get to the bottom of the housing is to take the blower completely out. If you remove the filters in the cabin , I believe you could spray back towards the fan housing.

Make sure your car is draining the moisture from the fan housing via the drain tube (where you see water dripping under you vehicle when the AC is on). I have had other vehicles where the drain tube was clogged or partially from debris or insects and moisture backed up causing a smell.

The foul odour via the vents is generally caused by a bacteria build up on the AC evaporator which is accessible by taking the cabin filters out of their housing giving the necessary access. I've had mine professionally cleaned where they remove the cabin filters and spray a specific chemical directly onto the evaporator while the aircon is on with the engine running. You can buy a can of AC cleaner which you put in the rear passenger footwell, release the contents which are then circulated through the AC system.

This is how I sprayed the Lysol into the a/c air intake

This is a video to show the location of the air conditioning system air intake on a BMW F 10 To get rid of the mildew smell you need to spray Lysol directly into the air intake of the A/C.
To save time on the video, I unscrewed all the bolts and remove the clips before starting the filming. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes to do the all procedure.
Do not run the A/C in max or recirculating mode. Doing so will automatically close the isolation door to the fan intake vent, it will keep the Lysol from going into the system.

Thank you! I will now spray Lysol in there from time to time.

Indeed, that one is a drain.
When put back the upper cover pay attention as it can bend and the water/dirt is going around the cabin intake air fan and will smell funny inside your car.
