Fyi, he's not wrong. Even car and driver classifies anything without a third pedal as an automatic (that includes anything from slush box torque converter, to SMG, to single clutch automated manuals, to CVT and obviously PDK, DSG, DCT and all other dual clutch boxes)

I don't know about the SMG equipped CSLs, but the SMG cars (M3/5/6) had to be the worst.

Im also very fond of the original 6 series. 635csi in this case. One of the first BMW's i ever saw. The styling is so 70's and so awesome. Always reminded me of a shark, so sleek and pointed lol



More recently, I absolutely fell in love with a blacked out i8. The first time I saw one, it flew by me on the freeway. The traffic got backed up and I was able to get a good look at it. I literally could not keep my eyes of it.

I mean I don't want your feelings to get hurt again and if you haven't lived in a cave for the past decade, you would've already heard all of this:
-2 pedals
-Reliability and financial disaster
-Undesirable given the choice, the used car market speaks for itself.
-Its "technology" has since been supplanted by dual-clutch transmissions, which are far superior to SMG.
-Still not a manual


But i'll play fair, there's an upside to SMG as well:
-Possible to convert to 6MT

The SMG transmission did not or could not pair with v10 (M5) or V6(M3). That's the truth.

Whereas the DCT in E9x M3 (V8) was hard tuned to handle high revs and pairs Beautifully with the engine.

I don't dislike "automatic". My DD is an automatic. But when I want "to drive", it's no fun being in an automatic. This video pretty much sums up my point for getting "fun" cars

Admit what? SMG not a substitute for a manual and for those looking for paddle-shift gearboxes, the DCT is superior to SMG. So no matter if you're a manual guy or a paddle guy, the SMG falls short.
