Need to do 20 more miles on odometer , but engine fails to start

Hi guys ,
I own a 535 XI 2015 , and recently had to deal with a major problem.
I signed for ext. warranty , which would kick in after 1000 miles from purchase , and I have made 850( 150 more miles left ) and the engine won't even start.

My mechanic was able to put it in neutral ( didn't know it's actually that hard and need to take a part bottom covers?!) , but says that if the car is not running it won't acknowledge the miles if you pull it with another car/truck.

Any ideas on how to work this out ? I don't have the $$ for a new engine , and it's just 150 miles more to get into these 1000 miles policy

Anyone that has worked their way with extended warranty and would they help me out if its just for several miles more ?

Well what happened that it won't start? Did something break in the engine? Noise? If not I'd check the battery first. If it's good I'd replace the starter as it's a common no start issue. Also ibs cable on battery could be an issue. Maybe your mechanic can change the parts on consignment and charge it back to the warranty.

What warranty is this? Having it kick in only after 1k miles seems REALLY shady. It's pretty much saying "lol this'll probably break in the next thousand miles, we're not going to pay for shit".

Edit: Oh, misunderstood what "purchase" was referring to. Thought it mean 1k after vehicle purchase, not warranty purchase lol. This makes more sense.

They will still not cover for preexisting issue.. no company is going to cover a engine so close to policy start even if you were just over that 1000 period. They still follow 3k/90days for any claims subject to increased review. Any n55 failure is rare, be sure it is actually a engine problem.

Op never said what the problem was. He managed to do 960 miles so it couldn't have been that serious. Unless he threw a rod or something. I would think it's something minor to a no start issue. ie...battery or starter.

I believe it's the engine guys. Probably rod . It's seized now and even my mechanic can't start the car.
The problem is that is a major fix and I don't have the $$$ to pay for it , if the car does these 1000 miles , the extended warranty will cover everything .

Searching for suggestions on how I can manage to do these miles without starting the car.

So the extended warranty I got , I purchased maybe 45 days ( after the 30day period was passed ) after I bought the car . It is reputable warranty , but am afraid they won't even look at the problem if not having these 1000 miles

You sure about that? I've never seen a single extended warranty program cover pre-existing conditions.

Yes engine failure is rare. But for some reason I'm seeing quite a few n55 with broken or bent rods. I myself bought a f10 from auction thinking it would be an easy fix. Turned out it threw a rod. I have a video posted of it starting. Yes I managed to start it. Even though they say it can't be done. Now I'm searching for a motor. Ridiculously priced at the moment

They don't, that's why they require a certain waiting period. Even if op was 500 over the 1000 required, that would make it 500 miles into the policy and the claim would still be reviewed with highest attention- as are all major claims within 3k/90 days. But of course, legally they would be liable to pay if OP was over this limit, it would just be a lot of back and fourth.

116. The previous owner titled it at 111k. So her failure happened within 5k miles of ownership. Which sucks because she was still paying on it. anyway I got a really clean titanium silver with Everest grey interior paperweight. I was going to use it for rental income.

Hey if you're past the 30 day wait period then You should be good to go. Have you read through your warranty papers. I can't really see it being both 30 days and 1000 miles. I would call to verify or really read the warranty papers. (Assuming you haven't). Who reads that tiny print stuff anyway...or maybe just call and explain the situation to them. I know some companies might try to get out of covering you based on the 40 miles. But you're pretty darn close. Maybe they'll do the right thing.

Yeah , they need both 30 days and 1000 miles. The reason why I don't want to do that is because once I do it and they say no .... I'm screwed , will have to pay the engine myself plus the $$ I have given so far to the warranty which I can't even use

IMHO, this. You're probably screwed. As the failure happened this close (relatively) to warranty purchase date, they will claim pre-existing condition. Warranty companies don't make money and survive by paying out claims!

Not sure if you can clock miles in neutral. But I would try. Put it in neutral and tow it 40 + miles.

This was the first thing to pop up in my head , but all mechanics say it won't work.

We are trying to change the CAS module now(with one which has more miles) , and hopefully this will show more miles on the speedometer
Better hope the insurance company doesn't follow this site; they've been known to do just that. Another issue you could have is if the mileage on the new module shows too much of a difference from when you purchased the warranty. You don't want to show a very high monthly average.

I mean, you must have known that you're basically committing fraud, right? Should have been more discrete to begin with. Good luck regardless though.
