N55 engine noise
Hello good night, if someone has any ideas that may have happened.(I attach videos)
I got that noise after about 50 km of having changed a spark plug, all that noise to disappear after 150 km(1.5 hours) of travel. It's very strange because it's gone, there's no more noise. When the engine was noisy, it issued the fault codes on several cylinders (3-4-6) I deleted codes and they have not returned. There are no strange noises either.- Last edited by luisavila; 07-11-2019 at 09:10 PM.. |

That doesn't sound good at all. Can you pull oil filter easily? If so check filter to see if any shiny shavings are in this if there are that's not a good sign at all. Most time this can be a knocking issue/rod bearings on there way out. Especially when the knocking matches RPM. When oil warms up it gets thinner causing bearings to get proper oil during that time of what life is left. Check when car is at cold start if this sound returns. Have you had vanos bolts recall done, or know of it being done depending on your year? Just so many things running through my mind what this could be other then rod knock.

it does sound like rod knock.
Try getting under the car and see if the noise is louder below the car than it is up top. Just a quick confirmation. If it's quieter under the car than is is from the top... you said the spark plugs were changed.. try pulling off the coils and and checking that all 6 spark plugs are torqued down. The frequency of the "knock" sound seems to my ear like it's coming from one cylinder (or one rod... hopefully not). Just want to be sure what we're hearing louder from the top than bottom isn't just a spark plug that was dropped in place but accidentally missed when torquing down (I've seen that happen lol)
