Gas cap backup?

On my 2013 528i, is there any back up to opening the fuel door once it is locked?......Say it's locked, the battery goes dead, there is no way to unlock the door to fill er up. I have not seen anything in the manual....Thanks!

If the car is locked so is the fuel filler door. So... don't lock the car at the gas station. That is the only mechanical lock on the fuel door and is not defeatable. If the car is not locked, all you need do, as you know, is push in on the top, left corner of the door.

I don't follow when this scenario would occur.

My brother had it happen on his older BMW. Was as a station, locked it to go inside, and came out to fill it up, but car was dead. In the trunk nicely hidden, his had a cable that he pulled to open the gas cap door to be able to still fill up. Had to have it towed out...

Behind the fuse box door in the right side of the trunk is the release cable. Mine has a green plastic tab at the end of the cable.
