thanks, yeh I just take car of the car and generally just use it at weekends. As its not used for commuting , the fuel consumptions is pretty good

I urge anyone thinking of getting a F10 to at least try a 530d even if you have always been a petrolhead - you may be surprised.
With the exception of the steering and and suspension (at least passive msport), it really and very good car. a 7 series for the price of a 5.

If you take the spilit screen off and just have the map on the whole screen do you. The RTTI overlay?
Finally got back and had a play.

Turns out I was looking in the wrong menu to find the feature to enable it...

You have to choose nav as your main option, then push the iDrive controller to the right and make sure split is not checked (so widescreen view of nav map only). Then scroll down to check the gray map/traffic condition view option.

Previously, I've either been in the options for the split screen view or the main menu settings. Another case of RTFM...

Well I say that, but I have done so, so many times...

Anyway, thanks again for the review, and the nudge to make me look into this again!

Great review, really spot on for the HUD. It really eases your day to day driving especially on the motorway. I hope they fix the steering feel with the LCI.

Quick question from your review...

How do you disable the active part?

You cnan choose the distance, I usually have it on the default of 3 bars and 4 if its wet. If a car cuts you up or jumps in front of you then the car can brake quite heavily to maintain the distance. You soon get to know how it works and when to intervene. The stop and go function is a bit weird at first as you are n;’t sure if the car will actually stop or not but again you get a feel for when it will do that and when you need to cover the brake or apply some brake pressure.
You can turn off the active part of it if you want and have conventional cruise control if you want , not sure I see the point persoanlyl though.

On the steering wheel, if you hold down either the buttons that set your ACC distance for a couple of seconds, the cruise control reverts to conventional cruise control. If you press the distance button again, its back to ACC.

Its good to discover some new "hidden gem" about the car, especially if you've had it a while.

I also discovered (new to me) that if you set the speed limiter and the car is say going down a fairly steep road and the speed increases . Once it hits 5mph over the assigned limit, you get a warning on the HUD and dashboard accompanied by some bongs.

I am very sure i just bought this car. Did the registration end with WUD? Thinking it has to be this car as the spec is quite unique. Anyway good choice of spec, love the Alcantara head lining and head up display.

yes it did.
glad you like it , yes was well specced out. headlining will be quite rare I suspect and I think you will agree it lifts the interior above the standard material.

All i did was go into my local BMW dealer in High Wycombe to book a service for my 520SE and i saw this beauty. Back of my mind i wanted a 530D anyway. Walked away a few times but kept coming back to it, next thing i knew i took it for a drive and bought it. The spec/colour combo was hard to resist and the engine is a game changer for me. Good to see it has been cared for after reading the posts on here. Still learning the car so may ask advice in the future if that is ok?

sure
yes it was very well looked after. Premium diesel from day 1 exclusively.
Dealer remarked on how good the condition of it was , particular the paintwork. Asked was it treated?
Said no, I just make sure no one else washes it, including the dealerships!

occassionally autoglym polish but mostly wash with autoglym shampoo and then extra gloss protection . later on I jsed autoglym hd wax.
no sponges or shamois leather but a lambs wool mitten and microfibre cloths to dry.
the less you touch/rub the paintwkrk the less chance of damaging it (swirls)

Garage List
We just got ours and being an xdrive the steering is great and gives a lot of feedback. Were your fuel mileage numbers based on liters or gallons? They seem pretty high

miles per (imperial) gallon.
easy to achieve if not in heavy traffic, just anticipation about what is ahead and keeping a constant speed. any acceleration however small eats in to economy.

just saying that the 530d if you want it to be , can just sips fuel. if you plant your right foot it pleased in the opposite way!

I am finding that out now. Finding that it is two cars in one. Pottering around in Eco Pro mode (which i find i do most of the time) you get reasonable MPG. Do that for a while and when you put it in Sport mode the engine turns into a bit of a beast and puts a smile on your face. You do pay for that smile at the pumps though :-)

if you mean me, I am just a private owner. If there are any issues I am sure fellow forum members would post about them here. do a search and see what comes up. This forum is my main source of BMW info other than what BMW publicly provide of course.
