I recently flashed my 535i with BM3! It is freaking awesome, a whole new beast! But the brakes feel so weak right now. The original pads that came with the car have lasted me 72k miles and maybe another 5 -10k. If I have to get the set up you have with 20 inch wheels. What would you recommend and where to find it? Please let me know should I just get the zimmerman rotors? I never worked on the brakes and probably will take it to a shop. Just don't want to get ripped off.

If anyone is interested in buying my brake setup I am thinking of selling the complete package, putting the car back to stock and selling it. Included would be front X6M brembo calipers, mounting hardware, ceramic pads, rear 550i calipers, ceramic pads and one piece steel rotors front and rear. The calipers were completely sandblasted rebuilt and repainted prior to install. The whole setup has less than 150 miles on it. The brake were painted burnt copper and clearcoated with PPG clear.

I would be interested in just the calipers.

If anyone is interested, I am looking to get around 1300 for the entire setup front and rear with everything included. There is less than 100 miles on everything.

Is the 750xi US equipped with the 374x36? Also, will those clear 18" OEM wheels?

In the US, only the 760 is equipped with 374x36 OR ALPINAs (B6 and B7)..

E60 M5 also has 374x36 BUT the center is bigger and overall pad contact area is smaller on them as compared to the ALPINA/760 calipers. Though, not sure if the caliper is a direct fit from E60 M5..

Can you elaborate on how you got M6 brakes to fit on your F10? These can't be a direct fit . . .

Yep direct fit. I just used a custom made 4mm thick stainless steel spacer/washer that fit between the caliper and knuckle, and longer bolts. The bolts I used were oem BMW subframe bolts, which were a bit long but I was able to shorten em. I had to order 25 of these spacers so if anyone wants I can sell them some.

My calipers were bought used on ebay, and I stripped them down completly ,rebuilt them with new seals and dust boots.
DARKKN1GHT, If you have any additional pics or insights from your X6M install, I'd love to know more. What did you do about the caliper carriers? Did your existing carriers fit the X6M brakes, or did you need to get X6M carriers as well?

Question

DARKKN1GHT or anyone else who can answer please, I am looking to install 2012 FRONT X6M calipers on my 2012 740Li.

1
  1. ) Will I need anything besides the calipers?
  2. Can I run these bigger calipers without buying the X6M's larger 395x36 rotor?
  3. IF I do need the larger rotor, will I need to put a spacer on the X6m calipers where they mount? what size would I need? 4mm?
  4. is there anything else I will need to buy to make a bolt on swap work? aside from brake fluid. I am one of the few people who is trying to upgrade the 7 instead of using the 7 brakes on the 5.

how did you get the x5m rotors to sit on the hub given they are 74mm vs the f10 72.56mm bore? also I want to buy a set of those spacers to do x6m rotors and calipers on my F02

I'm glad to see there's some traction here for this mod from others! Regarding your query, I believe that DARKN1GHT kept the F10 rotor (or maybe upgraded to the 550/750/760 rotors that bolt on directly) and just used the X6M calipers. I don't think he retrofitted the X6M rotor onto his car.

Sorry guys sold the car and the brakes. I will post part numbers when i get a chance. I used x6m front rotors, pads and calipers. Brake lines are stock and bolt up to the caliper. Only thing needed for fitment is custom 4mm spacers to offset the caliper outward and longer bolts due to the spacer.

I've had some PMs with DARKKN1GHT, so I thought I'd post some of his responses here so that all could chime in with their thoughts. This X6M brake mod is something I'm seriously considering doing, so I want to be absolute sure that I have all the info before I start buying expensive parts! The following are comments from DARKKN1GHT:

F10 will accept front x6m rotors without issues, the hub bore will not matter as that is integral to the hub of the car and the rotor bore hole is the same across all BMW models. The caliper also mounts like factory but it doesn't center over the rotor like OEM due to the x6m having a different knuckle. The spacer is meant to push the caliper away from the knuckle and center it. It is a 4mm spacer from my research, measuring and trial. Ive had the car up to 130mph plus. The bolts are just longer ones than stock due to the spacer which now takes up space between the mounting surface. The bolts I used were from the front subframe due to them being the same design, rating, but they are too long stock so you will need to trim them.

I used E71 rotors but the F86 is interchangeable as well. My reason was due to cost, as the drilled 2 piece are expensive. E71 guys frequently upgrade their rotors to the new ones so that's how I know it all fits.
