Regular tires or run flats

Trying to decide which way to go on a 535i. Regular tires or the run flat tires. Any suggestions?

Not sure what you are asking? The car is only offered with Run Flats and no regular tires from the facatory. If you replaced them with regular tires, there is no room for a spare so would have to rely on a mobility kit to get you going.

That is not entirely true, for example here in Belgium when you order a F10 with the standerd rims, you don't get run flats but normal tires. Im glad because normal tires provide a much better ride.

I wish they offered them in the US, but only have Run Flats as the initial OEM offering.

Can't you just ask the dealer to put normal tires on it? It's not like that runflats are cheaper

I guess you could ask the dealer to put regular tires on but I think they would be very reluctant to do so due to the liability. They tend to stick with only OEM approved guidelines.

In Belgium regular tires are standard on the F10 (except maybe on the 550).
You have to pay an additional 300 EUR (about 400 USD) for RFTs in option.

Interesting. If you do not choose the run flat option does the car come equiped with some kind of spare tire?

Just take delivery with runflats and drive them until they need to be replaced. Then replace with regular tires. That way you don't waste a set of runflats and you'll be able to tell whether you actually like them or not.

I've found that RFTs are a very particular thing for BMW owners. Some absolutely loathe them and some are ok with them. Some find them noisy and too hard/stiff and some don't mind.

I have had many BMWs and hate the runflats. They make the ride much harsher and the tires do not last. I have replaced the tires right after deliver on my last two cars. Then I put the RFTs up for sale. I have had no problem selling them as owners who have to return their cars after lease typically look to buy some RFTs cheap so that they do not get hit with a tire replacement fee upon return. I just ordered a 2011 550 and will be replacing the RFTs with Continental DWS. They have awesome ratings on Tirerack.com
