Speed/Rev Dials when in Sport mode?

I've seen videos on Youtube where when Sport mode selected the dials (revs and speed) change to a red colour. My car does not do this when I select sport mode. Is this an option you have to buy or something to configure in settings? Try as I might I cannot find where I do this in "setup".

Any ideas please? Maybe I need to RTFM a bit more!

You need option 6WB that is the Multifunctional Instrument Panel for that.

Yes it is the MFD, £500 option and worth a £1000 to my mind

Ok guys thanks. I was looking through the owner's manual earlier and the different colours display is only mentioned in the manual after the Multifunctional Display. Oh, well! Would have been worth £500 to have that option!

The other cool thing it does is when in comfort mode it will magnify the numbers the needle is next to.

I had been talking myself out of getting it, but then my test drive car had it, and I knew that I would regret not ticking that box.

Like Piers, I'd pay more for the MFD, really is a great bit of kit. I was lucky that they brought it out just as I was ordering. It really is the one thing I really wish I could get on my new 335d

Cheap option from bmw.
All those clusters on ebay are in excess of £700. And with fitting, it is atleast £1000 pound retrofit.

Looked into it multiple times but cannot justify spending £1K on this retrofit.

I think I am on my own with my opinion that I'd rather have the conventional dials. The MFID has very poor contrast at night - especially with the red/black scheme. The blacks are illuminated grey and the red is similarly bright dark red.

Fortunately I have the HUD, which means I don't have to look at the MFID much.

I've not actually got into a car with MFID, but from videos not convinced I'd want it either. Not sure about either of the display options, the sport mode looks (to me) a bit too boy racer.

My question... can you set it to one or another display types, without it being related to the modes? I wouldn't want to see it change each time I go from mode to mode.

I love the clarity of the full black panel display, I'd have to try MFID to be convinced it was better.

No, it's related to ECO, Comfort or Sport modes, not independent.

I fear yours may be broken...mine it pitch black, and red is not dark red, how very odd.

Re sport mode, I agree Pete, it is a bit boy racer ish, but I feel that is half the fun of the dash. The 5 is a wonderful place to sit, and mainly cruise. Every now and again, the mood takes to crack on, select bright red dials and immerse yourself in a different world, albeit briefly, then back to comfort. (Even with the Elise, I love the odd road to lob the 5 down for a different experience)

That is how I have understood its function, I'm not too keen on the concept of a different screen for each mode. I'd prefer to select the screen I like best, use that most of the time, whatever mode I'm in.

You have the default display, and the Eco Pro display and Sport display. But you can set it to stay on the default display when in Eco Pro or Sport modes if you want.

That makes more sense, the more traditional default display does fit my mind-set. I'm still not sure the default display looks as good as the black panel display, but not far off and you then have the options to play with.

I haven't got my car near me atm, but from memory it's in settings, instrument cluster display, Eco Pro mode or Driving info mode or something like that.

OT. I love having the different contrasts and find I drive differently in the 3 than I do in the Elise, though I love the both.

Can't wait to get the 5'er now as I keep remembering how more refined the front end felt compared to my e91 which felt a little gritty.

What type of Elise do you have?

B.O.T. (kinda) one thing that would be great to do is if you could swap the sides for the rev and speed counters. They are on the opposite side in the Elise, so always have to readjust.

Settings -> Instrument Cluster -> and then deselect the FIRST checkbox at the top of the list in the right hand view.

I have a 111R that was supercharged last year. Awesome piece of kit. You on SELOC, which model do you have?

Completely agree. If I could go back I wouldn't spec it. I want to be able to select the dash style, not have it linked to the driving mode.

Some elements are nice like the way the numbers grow as the needle approaches them and when the limiter is on the numbers over the limit dissapear.

At night the black does wash out too, bit disappointing really.

Agreed. HUD + conventional dials would be the best option, but when you specify the HUD the MFID is only £255, so it's just to tempting to click.

Luckily with the HUD you don't have to use it that much!
