AC Blower Turns Off -
535i 2013
I have been experiencing an intermittent problem with my vehicles Climate control. When I turn the AC on past the third level - max it will shut off. It will resume if I leave it off for a few minute but has to be below the third level. (this happens regardless of AC, Defrost or heat) I recently changed the Fan Motor Regulator/Resistor and that did not help (still experiencing the same problem). I am considering changing the blower motor next but I am unsure if that is the problem as the motor does turn on and works partially. Is there a way to bench test the regulator with a multi meter? What should be the next step. Thank you all in advance for all the help!! |

What is the condition of your battery and charging system? Any battery, charge level, or "discharge while stopped" messages on your cluster?
The IBS can make high loads like the blower fan and heated seats shut off or be limited in speed if your battery is weak. If you have replaced your battery, was it registered? |

93k on the vehicle with original battery. No messages on dash and everything else works.
Should I will go get the battery tested? Or can I just take the voltage and identify like that? |

Just got the battery tested and it is bad.
QUESTION If I buy an exact fit battery with the exact specs will I still have to register? Thank you |

Yes. The IBS needs to know the condition of the battery; i.e. how many hours on it, age, state of charge... things of that nature.

Interstate battery can register it. Replaced a battery in my E60 just a few weeks ago and they did it all. If your changing the type of battery then it needs dealer attention.

Okay, So far I have replaced the battery and registered it with foxwell scanner, replaced the ac regulator and the ac is still turning off after a few minutes of it operating at high fan speed.
I am thinking of replacing the motor but when it runs it runs strong. So I am stumped. Please help. |

This was my experience when my AC ran out of refrigerant. The interior blower continued, but there was nothing cold coming out. In fact, prior to complete cooling failure, while there was still perhaps bit of refrigerant in the system, I could hear a loud hissing sound from inside the cabin when the compressor kicked in and it had almost nothing to compress.

The blower shuts off regardless if the AC is on or off. I have tried it with ac off, heat on and ac on and it does the same thing. Shuts off after a few minutes of running high. Oh, btw AC is cold.

I took the blower assembly out and changed the control module on the side, but that had no effect. I then read someone changed the fan and that solved the problem. I was at first a little unsure about this, as the fan seemed to run fine at full power, so why would that be a problem? When I compared the new motor assembly with the old one, it was obvious that the old one seemed stiffer to rotate. My guess is that this extra resistance caused a current anomaly or voltage drop that the control unit saw and then rolled the power back to avoid burn out. Dropped the new motor into the blower assembly, cleaned it all out and popped it back in and it now works as new. In fact, there appears to be a performance increase, or at least restoration. |
