What mpg do you get?

So I had a 2013 535i with 54k miles and it would do 25mpg then unfortunately it was totaled. Now my 2016 535i does 20 mpg with only 26k miles. Wonder what changed over the years because both of them do what they are rated for on the window sticker. Any ideas what bmw changed when both engines are n55

Wheels and tires make a difference. My LS430 gets around 9.9km/100 (cdn) on 16s in the winter and on the 20s it gets around 11ish

Weight and power are what usually change.
More of each means less MPG, if all other variables are equal.
Typically your right foot is the biggest factor.

Well... EPA is 20mpg city and 30mpg highway. I've achieved over 31mpg straight highway on my 2012 535i and over 32mpg on our 2014 535i.

I have a 550 and my real world driving seems to match the EPA numbers. iDrive will show 24-25mpg for my work commute which is mostly highway, I've seen 27mpg on long distance road trips. Around 14-18mpg for in town trips, but I'm heavy on the accelerator.

I assume the specification/options are different, (like the wheels, as already mentioned).

Same base spec' F10 models, here in the UK, are rated as more economical in later builds. Options can be the difference.

One other factor, the higher mileage 535i may have had a very free running engine, due to the mileage, newer car not yet at peak. The reason for saying this, I had a new engine in an E39, at 65k miles. The new engine, dropped the economy by ~5mpg. Even 25k miles later the new engine had not reached the efficiency of the old engine, was getting there but still needed more miles.

My 2016 550i is getting a little over 20mpg in mixed highway/city driving. Highway runs get in the 24-25 mpg range, although I haven't done a really long trip yet.

On our 2012 I used EcoPro on the freeway (cruise set around 80mph) and Comfort and Sport in town. On the 2014 I stayed in Comfort all the time and had the cruise set at 80ish.

It was just an experiment to see how good i could get.
I followed all the gauges for maximum affect.
Like I said, painful, always comfort or sport now.

That was why I used ECO the first trip. Oddly, on our last trip I really didn't care and got better MPG!

on my 2011 528i i get around 8.8 liters/100km ( 26-27 mpg) with 60% highway and 40% city driving. Have a roof cargo box installed so it takes a toll.

Funny... We didn't care about mpg until the 1973 arab oil embargo. Now it seems that that's all that matters.

My 2013 535i got ~16-17mpg with 50% town/50% freeway. It's all in the weight of your foot. Long trips (80mph avg) was about 25-26mpg. CA "oxygenated" gas sucks and gives about 10% less mpg than out of state gas.

My wife does better than that; and her foot is either on the brake or loud pedal. Coasting to a red light isn't in her repertoire! She gets 18+ in 99% city driving.

Hey Dude! Long time no speak! I am going to look at a couple of 2016 CPO tomorrow, two 535i and a 550i at a dealer in LA. I might be needing some coding tutorial help again soon. ; ) Are you and MWPos still helping people out with this? I have a new laptop so I would need to get all of the software again... I think I still have the cable.
