Looking to get a 550 2016, yay or nay?

Hi guys,

So i've been in the market for a bmw 550i X drive 2016. Car is black on black, fully loaded with 48,000km on it.

I had : Bmw 435 Full bolt on, bmw 340 full bolt on.

Now i'm looking into the Big 8 4.4 TT.

Is it a good reliable car? i know that this car can push a lot of power but can he handle it?

As of the exhaust, i saw like 2 options : Muffler delete : 350$ or the full catback at 3500$.... like what the hell? what would you guys suggest for exhaust modification. I want a nice tone, more loud that stock but don't want to be annoying.

Also in term of performance, JB4? Is Bootmod3 available? downpipes does it worth it?

Waiting for your answers!

thank you All!

-Alex-

Poke a bit through the forums and read up on users posting about them you will learn quick about how that engine is. Not wanting to scare you away from it just a warning. They are not that reliable as your 435 or 340.

I own one and would not recommend you get one unless it is CPO to 100k miles (not km). Dump it just before the CPO expires.

I've had a 2016 550i xdrive for 3 months now. It has 30k on the clock and is CPO'ed. Just put M5 mufflers on and removed the center muffler and resonators and it sounds mean but there is drone at less than 2000 rpm but the valves are always open, piping the valves should solve it. Paid $500 for the cat back exhaust second hand with all mandrel bends. Had no major problems so far. Put about 3k miles on it and got the low oil level message. I think it's going to need routine oil. Dunno if this is just normal or is a sign of an issue that will be costly down the line. Stock drives soft and needs a tune, Coilovers, and swaybars.

Sounds to be exact, low oil message completely normal for n63 engines to burn oil. Good thing for CPO if it gets worse they can test it and possible put new engine in if excess oil is burnt over the test they do.

The 2016 has a N63TU, I can say I've had mine sine June (550i xdrive) and its not burned any oil. Purchased it with 57,500 miles on it and now have 64,500 miles on it. I changed the oil when I purchased it, then changed it again at 63,500 because they were running a special for $39.95 oil change at the dealer. Anyway mine has burned 0 oil.

But since June I've had the following repairs, new 02 sensors failed within 7 miles of leaving the dealer after purchase they replaced them at their cost. Charcoal canister purge valve.

I've also replaced the plugs, intake filters, cabin air filters, and windshield cowl cover myself as "maintenance".

I still have a drive line vibration under hard aceleration in 6-8th gear at 50-80mph. No vibration at full throttle, or in lower gears. It sounds like a rumble. Had the wheels refinished from previous owners curb rash and checked for straightness.

I suspect the issue is in the drive train, bad rear diff, torque converter, or something in the suspension. This is a common issue on the F10's other wise it drives fine for the big car it is.

There was a customer care package needed on them that was part of a recall that Bmw wouldn't call a recall I believe for the n63. I'd make sure that was done. Also check the rear suspension as f10s tend to snap springs for some reason.

The CCP is for the N63... Not the N63TU...
