Burnt oil smell and smoke from exhaust
I’ve got a 2016 550i with around 85k miles. I’ve recently replaced the crank case ventilation system because it was broken and I thought was the cause for all the burnt oil and smoke. It has since become a lot better. But I’m still having white smoke from the exhaust at idle and the car smells of burnt oil. I’m losing about 3 quarts of oil between intervals. Any ideas what it could be?

This is a known issue with the valve stem seals getting brittle and letting oil leak by. The BMW N63 V8 engines are know for this. It seems to be less common with the N63TU versions.
It may not do anything, but I add some Liqui Moly Oil Saver during my oil changes to help keep the rubber seals from drying out. Worth a shot in my opinion to see if it help at all with lessening the issue. |
