Whistle from air vents
Hello
Since I bought my BMW, when I using ventilation/climatronic I can hear very often whistle from front middle air vents. Sounds like air circulation between air mixer flaps. Not all the time but usually at 90% trip. No matter short or long trip. Some times help for short period when I change AUTO to miniumum. This is annoying. |

I noticed the same on a recent trip. One of those little things I decided to ignore for the sake of my sanity. But just wanted to confirm - you're not alone (the first step is admitting our obsessive compulsive nature ).

Same for me, very annoying; since the rest of the car is so good noise insulated I can actually here it even at 100km/h.
And it’s only in auto. In manual , with fan speed 4 or lower on all 4 zones it is completely gone. But even if the rear is set on auto the whistle is back. |

Wow glad to hear I'm not the only one! It started for me when I started using the heater. There is a definite whistle at times. Going to take it in to the dealer as I also have a rattle coming from my rear right speaker housing.

Well, same here with different settings. I do hear this only whenI have set the middle whel to "Red" for hot air. Also I hear it when the AC is off and the wheel is set to "Blue"...

Same problem, comes and goes as auto ac adjusts flaps etc...
Seems to be reduced if auto recirculate is forced to recircultate only. Have taken to the dealer, who heard it straight away; he offered to take the car in and strip down the ac system to fix it or change out once they've tried to fix the original one, but that means taking out the dashboard...so I'll live with it for now. As there are so many cars apparently affected, I'm hoping BMW will identify the root cause and issue a specific fix. |

When were all of your cars (with the whine) built?
I noticed a difference between my car (July 2010 build) and the newer ones at BMW Welt. There appears to be some additional plastic in the newer cars behind the actual vent itself. My car does not whine. In exchange for this quiet, my rear vents put out zero air. |

I have the same problem. November production.
In this german thread someone claims the problem is a known issue (since 20 Dec) at BMW and that there is a fix for it. http://www.motor-talk.de/forum/pfeif...15.html?page=2 |

I don't have a whistle but the front ventilation outlets are noisy no matter what setting I use. Even when I turn the fan down to the slowest auto setting I can hear the fan. It gets a little better if I turn the temperature wheel on the front dash to more heat.

f11 520 d sport auto 17`extendead AC
the whistles continues... And the air vents in the dash board near the front glass always have air heated no matter the regulation of the temperature. Even if i turn the temperature to 19-20š the midle ones and the lateral ones they have cold air. The ones to the front glass blow hot air all the time. Itīs impossible to have a constant and controladed temperture. By the way if i turn off the fornt air vents in the dashborad the whistle is lower (if i have the auto function only in the passenger side its more quite). No relation with the rear vents. I dont understand the function of the regulation of the padle with blue and red. whats the purpose and where should it be red/ blue midle?? you have two buttons with regulation of the temperature in a precison of 0,5 š C... |

I agree, if you set it on manual it's OK though as long as the fan is on level 4 or lower. I think with 5 levels of intensity on the auto mode they could fokus on low noise level on the lowest setting in auto.

I have the same problem with the whistle. Mine was was built in October 2010. I asked the dealer about it, and they didn't seem to know of a fix.
