Flash Tunes - Mission Performance & Bootmod3
Well the 2013 535XI is finally out of warranty. I've been waiting for the warranty to run out to do anything related to tuning. So now I'm in the market for an ECU flash. I don't really want to go for a bolt on or a piggyback. I'd rather go the OBD flash route.
The car is basically stock with the exception of a custom exhaust including the MPE mufflers. I don't really have any interest in replacing the downpipe, turbo, or charge pipe. I'm interested I getting some additional performance out of the car, but don't have any interest in anything more than a stage 1 tune. It's a daily driver and I'd don't need it to be a race car. I have another toy for that. I'm interested in giving it the performance that BMW should have from the factory. I also want to be able to have it drive comfortably and economically in "Comfort" mode, as that is how my wife prefers to drive the car. I have read good things about both Mission Performance Stage 1 and PTF Bootmod3. I like that they both seem to deliver smooth mid range performance across normally driven RPM ranges, and retain very good daily drivability. I'd really like to hear everyone's actual experiences with the products and the companies. 've pretty much narrowed it down to these two, and I'd like to hear what people who have actually used them think of them. Thanks! |

I plan to go with a MP Stage 1 tune. Since they are local, I will pay them a visit. Heard good things. Will let you know how it goes.

I just did the bootmod3 stage 1 93 flash on my 535i today and what a huge difference! Literally threw me back into my seat when I went out for the first ride. Will be upgrading to stage 2 this weekend after catless dp and spark plug swap. Love how you can configure burbles to your liking. Definitely recommend it

Yes the throttle is more responsive, bootmod3 hasn’t released any transmission software for the 535 yet. Not sure if they are at all.

And what is the "burble" thing? The car currently makes a sound like that when it shifts under hard acceleration, but I can't imagine I'd want it to do that all the time. |

Is either of these flashes "less visible" to a dealer from a tampering perspective? My '16 still has a lot of warranty left that I'd rather not void.

That being said, from what I've read, if you do come in for a major powertrain warranty claim (new engine, new turbos etc...) they can still browse the performance history logs and see boost targets higher than stock etc... but "return-to-stock-and-lock" will make sure that no tamper alarms go off at the dealer. |
