I ordered some vinyl matt black wrap off fleabay this week 500mmx200mm sheet £1.90 delivered, and as I was sat bored this evening I decided to do a quick run through on wrapping your own repeaters, my first attempt at wrapping and id give it a 7.5-8 out of 10.
Im pretty happy with the outcome and im usually picky and there is the odd very small blemish but you would have to be real close to spot them, any how im fitting them back on.

all that was needed was hairdryer, scissors, Stanley knife.


first job is to remove repeater from wing this has already been documented on here but to me it did not make a whole lot of sense where the clips were so for the ones in the dark like me ive tried to detail them more accurately.
PLEASE use something plastic as although a butter knife will do the job its deffinately not ideal!
There are three clips, one upper, one lower and one at the front of the repeater, 'the front being the nearest edge toward the headlight' Take/push this clip 1st it is a steel clip and it will allow you to pull repeater out slighty then get the suckers top n bottom.

Once out just unplug by lifting the tab on the electrical plug with a small screwdriver.
Now take in the house and pinch the wifes hairdryer. To disassemble the chrome fasia from light unit there are another 3 clips. NOW I repeat be super careful with these as they snap easy!!!


once fasia is off clean up with some fairy liquid and dry thoroughly, I generously cut quite large bits of vinyl but, had plenty to spare for any cockups, 'which did happen!' I started by lightly heating vinyl, when supple I placed on trim and started smoothing and pulling the wrap tight, this is the tricky part may I add

I found it easier to try and rub/stretch the recessed part first then work my way along the upper and lower parts. now is a good time to Stanley the center out and start tucking the excess behind as shown 'see Stanley cut on pic below'

now its pretty much all down the patience with those damn air bubbles,

but on a good note the vinyl is really forgiving and can be pulled up and stuck back down numerous times so don't panic just have a breather and try again.
here is my finished repeaters cost £1.90 + 30MINS OF SWEARING!

No probs, just a thought but it might be worth trying to buy a small off cut of proper 3m stuff from a local wrap company.
Probably find it easier to work id of thought.

You can use the tip of Stanley knife to pierce the bubble very slightly, heat and remove, seen guys do this when there is a bubble that cant be removed....

Awesome job on the wrap. Turned out better than you are giving yourself credit for. If you do anymore wrap jobs spend a little $$ and buy a heat gun. Hairdryer gets about 120°F and the h-gun will do 500°F and up. I used one when I wrapped my interior and mirror caps. Makes the vinyl super plyable and much easier to mold into creases and around corners. Like I said though, the wrap job looks great. Very thoughtful to put together a nice DIY for folks.

thanks, and no problem at all I actually enjoy doing them, just a shame that i'm pretty much out of things left to do on my car at present.

Ive always been more hands on with the exterior modding than into the tec side of the car, so maybe its time I learn

The F11 looks bad ass, post a couple car pics once you have the side repeaters reinstalled. I never see any F11s over here in VA.

heres a few I just took, crap pics to be honest but this Thursday im having my quad conversion fitted so next weekend I might have a couple of nicer shots and angles.

Nice DIY, and it seems like a easy and cheap way to get rid of the chrome.

I got mine painted to get a perfect match to the paint.

Good work, I did the same with some leftover Hexis wrap I got free from the guy that did my front bumper. It was good quality stuff too; really pliable once heated and doesn't bubble at all.

I also used what was left to do my door handle chrome strips - they pop off quite easily so can be done indoors like the repeaters.

Thanks, definately thought it wasnt as easy as i assumed it would be, like you said though good quality materials go along way, might have another go in the future when i feel inspired again

It will be easier next time now you've done it once.

If you are going to re-do them at some point, get some 3m, hexis or avery vinyl if you can. They're really thick which means it doesn't 'bunch' and once heated become very pliable and easy to mould.

I done mine a couple of weeks ago with the Hexis stuff and was really chuffed how they turned out also. I went for high gloss black on a white car but have been toying with the idea of buying some high gloss white wrap and redoing them white.

Next up for me is the interior trim pieces. The hexis stuff is really good to work with once there's a good bit of heat in it.

Thanks ian like i said though if you do, be uber careful with the small tabs on the outer chrome bezel thingy they snap real easy.

Other than that you cant really mess up, oh and use decent auto wrap like 3m etc.

Large one I know... sorry. I removed the other side to try it in white but the white was WELL off so it's back to chrome at the moment until I get a spare 2 minutes to wrap it in Gloss black again.

Thanks for that I wasn't to sure if it would look odd just a section of black there but it works cheers.

Wrapping was an option I considered, after taking the side repeaters off the car I found that the clips were so brittle and broke. This happened on both cars so I purchased new indicator from BMW and had my locl paint man colour code them for me.
