Rotor question... is this normal?

Hey guys. I noticed my front rotors have this circular indentations on my rotor. Anyone knows what it is or what causes it? Pic attached. I’ve never had any brake job done since I bought the car and the car only have <40k miles. My F10 has the M-pkg. Thanks in adv for any input

Yes it is fairly normal. My F10 had the same issue after 50-60k I beleve it is caused by hard braking a lot. Its safe to drive until you need pads. When the next brake job is done you will need new rotors. BMW never turns rotors they always replace.

Does your steering wheel shake while braking during high speed? Usually around 60 to 80 mph. If so, there will be problem eventually before the pads worn out.

As long as you don't feel any grinding or noise when you're braking you should be alright. Looks like an old skool vinyl record lol!

This is typical scoring usually when one has OE semi-metallic pads. It almost seems that the this is a deliberate effort by car manufactures to sell not only replacement pads, but the more expensive component, rotors. I've had much better luck with rotors when using ceramic pads.

Mine started looking like that at the same mileage, but my fronts were warped and I needed rear pads so at 38k I did R1 Concepts Carbon Geomet Rotors and Optimum OEp pads and they are incredible!

BMW Dealers may not turn rotors but they can be turned. There is a minimum thickness stamped on the inside of the rotor that can be checked by your local machine shop to determine if the rotor can be turned safely.
