Strange Blue/Grey colour scheme on map
After extending my Connected Drive subscription for year 4 on my F10 520D Sport (with NBT Professional Sat Nav), the map changed from its normal green/yellow based colour to a very dark blue/grey colour. Probably reflects the weather conditions right now but I want the more colourful original back!
BMW connected drive helpline couldn't help (surprise) and sent me to my local dealer who spent 30 mins saying they'd "never seen that before" and would I like to book in for a diagnostic check!! Cheeky! Now just noticed that when using the second key, the colour is back to normal but as soon as the first key used its back to blue/grey. I've never used the "Profiles" option on the car but just a thought. If I opened and started the car with the second (good colour) key and "export" the settings to a USB stick; could I then lock the car, open up and start with the first (bad colour) key and "import" settings from the USB. Would this transfer all setting from the second (good colour) key to the first (bad colour) key??? Anyone out there know all about the Profiles option and whether what I've suggested is OK or a pile of pish? Thanks |

I'm now sure it's the traffic display. Go into traffic on the left hand menu, de-select traffic map and make sure the traffic flow has a tick next to it. Apparently the grey option is supposed to make the traffic flow stand out better, but it's fine with the classic colours.

Thanks for your inputs guys,
By the time I'd read the tips about the traffic display, I'd ploughed on with the profiles copy solution which worked a treat! BMW Connect actually got back to me today after I'd sent them a screen shot of the map display. They'd sent it off to Germany who said they hadn't seen it before and again suggested a full diagnostic check at my BMW garage. Noticeably they didn't offer this FOC!!! It's gone now and so I'll never know what BMW did to create the problem when updating the Connect Drive subscription: hope it doesn't happen again next year, sassuming I still have the car! BTW, RTTI was still present and changing map colour option didn't work at all. Thanks again. |

You had the Traffic Info Map display activated. Can't believe BMW wanted to send the unit to Germany for this. What in the world...

Unbelievable. It's simply the info map as Quicksilv3r said.

Just proves the knowledge of some of these call centre personnel !!!
... and the dealers are no better. It was a simple case of Traffic Map being enabled.

Is this now what you are seeing out of interest?
I must admit I've always thought that this colour scheme was rather low in contrast and not as easy to "read" in terms of the smaller roads which a very similar colour to the general background. (Mine is a2012 CIC professional) |

So infuriating the way BMW & other marquees are so utterly clueless about the tech in their cars!
I have had it with the connected drive. I was no longer able to contact BMW Assist for directions etc as it kept saying connection not made (or something similar). Took it to BMW, had one of their 'BMW Geniuses' have a fiddle, reset the system, read the manual then suggest I book it in @ £80 + VAT for a proper look. Turns out the damn subscription had lapsed! They might offer free Wifi & good coffee but whenever I actually scratch away at BMW's beautiful facade I am often disappointed. |
