My F10 Coding Experience
I managed to code the 2016 F10 using the Bimmercode App and Wi-Fi dongle.
This is very straight forward as it reads your cars modules and gives you the options in plain English. It also has an expert mode so you can go into all of the modules in detail. So far I have coded the following Video in motion Wing mirrors fold when car locked and open when unlocked (no holding the key fob) Windows close when door is opened Radio switches off when door opened Wing mirror folds to 85 degrees instead of 45 degrees Angel eye brightness increased from 7% to 16% Warning gongs changed to the Rolls Royce ones (sounds like a harp) haha Efficient Dynamics switched off by default when the car is started M Performance on start up in the I drive Wing mirrors can be folded at 40mph max (great for country lanes) Tyre temps and pressure now visible not just pressure There are loads more options but the above are the ones that I have found are actually useful Sport dials improved (better colour) maybe like the M5 |

Sounds interesting. Can it be done by a complete noob? What sort of wifi dongle, etc? How much does it cost (I know the app is free to download but do you need to do in app purchases to make it all work?

Thanks @JLR1969
Didn't know this existed. Looks more user friendly than Carly, and at a guess easier to use than E-Sys. I've used the latter and once you get the hang of it, becomes fairly straightforward. Am interested in the improved Sports Dials and how they differ? Do you get the shift lights round the rev counter - think I recall you have digital cockpit in yours.... do you have any photos? |

I looked at this briefly on the App Store and I think you have to pay £25 to unlock coding......

Vgate iCar 2 WiFi OBD2 Recommend getting the iOS app as it has 'expert mode' as well which is akin to raw coding on e-sys. Both the Android and iOS have simple mode but for the more in depth, the expert mode is better. Yep, £25 but it fully unlocks the app and you can use on any vehicle. Unlike Carly where you have to buy various coding options. |

You can buy the dongle and then look to see via the app without actually buying the app. Then if it's possible you can buy the app. Either way for £42 there is a lot you can code that makes the car a lot more useable |

I’ve just ordered this kit and got the app on my iPad, I’m looking forward to having a play tomorrow. I’m going to sort out some stuff that annoys me and thanks to all on this thread for the useful info

I posted this over on the F30 forum as thats what I'm changing to next week:
Ordered an adapter last night after reading all these posts on here! I'm picking up my F30 in just over a week so I thought in the meantime I'd practice on the car I'm part exchanging (F10 2012). Being my first attempt at coding, it was a little scary initially but once you get over that it's fine I've only coded 2 things so far (Fold mirrors on lock & Digital Speedo) I noticed that the list that come up is different to the demo version and also from what some of the guys on here have said. I didn't have a FEM ECU option come up. I was able to find the folding mirrors option here: Car Access System (CAS4_2) Expert Mode 3003 FH_Master KMFRT_SCHILIESSEN Looking forward to doing more coding in the new car soon! Kit used: Vgate iCar 3 Wi-Fi OBD F10 520d iPhone 6

On a car this wide it is crazy this is not standard. But it isn't. It is my most used option and I use it every time I park up. Don't shoot the messenger.

I have just purchased 530D SE (no comfort mode) 2010 also just purchased vgate car 2 WiFi and bought the full bimmerCode (£25) my doors have folding mirrors so if I press the lock button for 3 secs the mirrors fold, but I'd like to code the car to auto fold the mirrors when I lock car (I keep forgetting and where I live mirrors get the boot from teenagers sometimes)
Does anyone know what I have to go in to to make the changes, I have read so many ways for other beemers it has left me confused and I don't want to bleep anything up... Thanks... |

Think I'll treat myself to the coding kit then. Recently bought a 2016 F10 and would like to tweak a few things. In no particular order, the things that spring to mind so far are:

Hmmm... The Bimmercode website says the current Vgate adapters don't work with the app any more. Trying to get my head around the various ones that are still recommended as there's quite a range of prices so presumably a range of capabilities and features too. Can anyone in here shed any light on that?
All the recommended adapters are considerably more expensive than the Vgate ones anyway, so it seems coding is no longer such a cheap thing to try out. |
