Brother is a SA...

Good news for us N63 owners...

N63 replacement engines dropped significantly in price early Jan and there was just another big drop today. It's a complete, rebuilt engine, with upgraded seals/components - 2 year warranty.

%73 drop in past 90 days.

https://www.jakesweeneybmwparts.com/...xoCFVoQAvD_BwE

I have BMW NA contributing 4K already to this repair so we're waiting to see what the Rep says. as they think the engine price might continue to drop.

I'll come back on Friday, so sorry for delay.

the lawsuit did not include the N63tu and thus I expect that the settlement will not include it either.

No more!

My 550i GT and its abominable N63 engine finally succeeded in killing my predilection for BMW cars.

I’ve had enough. Enough of its unquenchable thirst for oil and nonstop hunger for new batteries. Not to mention enough of the dishonesty and doubletalk of BMW service advisors and salespeople.

I now have a Tesla Model X. And driving is fun again, without endless problems and nonstop repair expenses.

Bye, bye BMW!

https://www.carcomplaints.com/news/2...-lawsuit.shtml

May 5, 2018 — A BMW N63 engine class-action lawsuit may be over for owners and lessees who have suffered from drained batteries and oil consumption problems.

The proposed settlement includes about 84,000 current and former owners and lessees of 2009-2014 BMW 5 Series, 6 Series, 7 Series, X5 and X6 vehicles equipped with N63 engines.

Plaintiff Joon Bang filed the class-action lawsuit in September 2015 in California, and that same month a similar N63 lawsuit was filed in Kansas. The Kansas lawsuit was dropped so the plaintiff could join the California complaint, but within three months two more N63 lawsuits were filed in California.

The affected parties then moved to transfer the consolidated lawsuit to a New Jersey federal court. Although the case never went to trial, BMW says it agreed to settle to save on the future expense of litigation that has already went on since 2015.

New Water Pump Recall and Engine Recall

How does the new electric auxilliary water pump recall affect the new N63 engine Class Action Recall? Does this mean the N63 suit is going to be delayed longer perhaps? Really want to see them get resolution on the N63 so I can perhaps get a new engine replacement.

Anyone know what happened to the following post by user wmg/bmw?

How's this possible; wouldn't he need a new transmission too?

"I have a 2011 550i GT Xdrive and it was smoking via valve guides... BMW replaced the valve guides the turbos, the resonators, the catalytic and was getting ready to install the engine when BMW NA told them not to install the engine from the pictures they did not like the look of the timing chain guides and said they will send the dealership a brand new engine. It will take another 2 months for the engine to come in from Germany and install but I have a loaner and getting a 2019 brand new N63tu engine for $0.00 dollars ummmmm I had 115k on the engine now I will have a brand new engine/car and will get it back March 2019."

Update:

The engine valve seals was replaced new turbos installed and a bunch of other things. BMWNA seen the images and because the timing chain guides did not look good they decided to replace the entire engine. It will be a N63 reman so new because of the delays in the production of the engine I have to wait until March 2019 to get my GT back. I am sporting a 2018 X3 3.0 with 3k miles as a loaner so not complaining.

Also no charge for anything...... The warranty is now 131k on the valve seals

Bang vs BMW Settlement

I heard about BangvsBMW last week and read up on qualifying for a new engine replacement. It explains you can get a free oil consumption test and if your vehicle fail's - you're likely to get a new short block. I made an appointment the very next week. Brought this up to the adviser at BMW and they were aware of this settlement, but not all the facts. He said I have to get an oil change for $75 and part of the oil consumption test is tracking the oil gauge within my next 700 miles, but if I have smoke, car can’t pass smog, or the timing gear isn't working properly he will be able to request a new short block.

After a week - I received a call from my adviser and he said my timing chain and smog test (due to valve stem seal smoke) failed, so I'm getting a new engine (short block). It will take 3 months for the engine to come in, so I can pick up my car and drive it until then. I scratched my head and said I want a rental, if my car can't pass smog it can't be on the road. He will get me a rental, but BMW is trying not to cover rentals because the amount of backorders in engines at the moment.

Bang vs BMW

Do not exceed over 120,000 miles or your vehicle doesn’t qualify. Anything over 120,000 miles and over 10 years does not qualify. You need to go here https://bangclasssettlement.com/Comm...sked-Questions and read all your benefits and qualifications.

This is the smoke cloud I get after about 5 minutes of the car sitting idle. This is a FRESH oil change with about 2 miles on the oil. The previous oil had 33 miles on it. The smoke plume is much larger if it sits longer or if I use passing gear in traffic.

What you can't hear in the video is the car hunting up and down while idling and spitting out of the exhaust even after all of the servicing and parts I've replaced associated with the VANOS system and camshaft sensors. Also can't hear the timing chains rattling of which I've had it in countless times at BMW for and their only explanation was "the N63 is notoriously noisy...don't worry about it."

I really don't drive the car due to all of this, maybe to the store occasionally or around the block to blow the cobwebs off of it. Hopefully I can get some resolve when I take it in.

Yeah - that doesn’t look good. In my opinion you’re right at the limit with 118,000. They might try to patch it up just enough to get you by. Read up on the settlement find a honest service advisor that’s heard of this. And tell him everything you know about the oil consumption test and free repairs, if they have any questions you can also have them contact the attorneys provided by the settlement. That will get them to not try something shady.
