I do get your points about the bigger calipers on 7 Series F01/F02.

However since I already had the 817/818 calipers on the car this was by far the simplest and cheapest mod for me. The change only took 20 min per side and was really easy since I didn’t have to disengage the brake lines or anything.

Also I don’t have any concerns about the performance since the setup I have now is exactly how 550i/M550d was built in Europe!

Happy with the look behind the open wheel design of BBS CI-R’s.

Yes, sorry for the lack of updates. I ended up rebuilding and painting the calipers for peace of mind. I did have to make custom spacers/washers to space out the caliper 4mm to center properly on the x5m rotor and use longer bolts otherwise no mods. I will post pics soon.

M5 brakes are nice and the best performing but quite expensive.. I wanted a better brake upgrade for cheaper. I aim to be well under 1000 bucks for front x5m calipers, rotors, new seals, ceramic pads, and rear 550 calipers rotors and seals. I did use one piece aftermarket rotors to keep cost down.

Brakes are done. Still need to bleed them some more as I did a full rebuild on all 4 calipers. Deff a noticeable increase in stopping performance and they look awesome.

Thumbs up

Nice colors on the calipers. Thumbs up for this.

I have a few questions and hope you can answer/help me.

1 - what size wheels are those? Do you think a 19 inch m-sport wheel would be fine?

2 - I see you mentioned caliper is a direct fit but needs some adjustments(spacer/washer ?) - can you let me know what you did here? like any additional part numbers?

3 - Finally, where did you get the calipers? was it used or new?

Thanks

My wheels are 20 inch. Cant confirm whether oem 19s would fit since the calipers are huge.

Yep direct fit. I just used a custom made 4mm thick stainless steel spacer/washer that fit between the caliper and knuckle, and longer bolts. The bolts I used were oem BMW subframe bolts, which were a bit long but I was able to shorten em. I had to order 25 of these spacers so if anyone wants I can sell them some.

My calipers were bought used on ebay, and I stripped them down completly ,rebuilt them with new seals and dust boots.

ALPINA/760i(US) front brakes

Here's my new setup from this weekend....(pardon the dirty wheels/car)

Zimmerman rotors, EBC Yellow stuff pads, ALPINA/760i Calipers/Carriers powder coated to match paint code used by Alpina on calipers (RAL 5002).

Looks great, complements the Alpina wheels!

So these are the front brakes from F01 760i/Alpina B7?

The rotors are 374x36, the same diameter as the Euro spec 550i/M550d brakes I used, but the size of the hat is reduced to allow calipers with larger brake pads.

I also noticed that the caliper carrier is the same as on my setup.

I add all part numbers on the same way as in my post on the first page in this thread for future readers:

F01 7 Series 760i and Alpina B7 2-piece directional 374x36 rotors.
L: partnr. 34 11 6 789 543
R: partnr. 34 11 6 789 544
Caliper housing.
L: partnr. 34 11 6 786 827
R: partnr. 34 11 6 786 828
Caliper carrier.
Partnr. 34 11 6 786 829
Brake pads.
Partnr. 34 11 6 794 464

Correct me if I'm wrong addy27.

Yes, these are brakes from US 760i/Alpina B7/Alpina B6 (All these models use this setup here in US)

Your parts list is correct.

Where are you guys finding your Caliper Carriers? Everywhere I'm looking they are only selling the actual brake calipers only.

First, I know this is just bigger front brake rotors.

But I'm really satisfied with this simple mod. Both with how it looks and the performance!

I highly recommend US 550i and Euro 535i/535d owners this mod, since those cars already have the same brake calipers that I used. 374x36 rotors, caliper carriers and new pads are the only parts needed.

The change is an easy DIY, 20 min per side.

im interested in those spacers you have extra... im thinking about doing this setup with the X5M brakes... what were the price of the calipers used on ebay by chance? part numbers?
