White wheels - yay or nay?

Thinking of doing white wheels on my 550, wanted to know if anyone has good or bad things to say about it. Anything helps, thanks.

Nay. I have yet to see white and white work on any car that doesn't make it look cheap. Wheels should pop on a car in my opinion...

Ya, it's that or matte black. The reason I'm thinking about it is because I've never seen them. I do wish there was someone out there though so that I could see them.

White wheels + brake dust = not so good.

The only good looking white wheels I've seen were back in the 80's when my friend had a white Camaro IROC-Z, he chromed the wheels and painted the recesses and the edges of the wheel spokes white. The whole white wheel thing kind of came and went in the late 80's, early 90's. Kind of Miami Vice-ish.

But that's not to say what you want to do will look bad. Give it a shot, you can always repaint them BMW Hyper silver.

Well I was born in '88 so I sadly missed all of that fun. I'm probably going to go with the vorsteiner 160's, I attached a picture hopefully it works. I was also considering a pop of color instead, doing them in the BMW blue, or maybe just pin striping them that color. Since my car will be all white with some black, the only color will be the BMW emblem and conveniently my CT licence plate is the same blue. Because of that the same blue on the wheels could look good. Otherwise I'd just go satin black. So those are the three options I'm considering: BMW blue, white, satin black.

I'm a huge fan of the dark gray finish wheels on white body. Please don't put on white wheels, it looks tacky IMO. Plus, it's just begging to be pulled over by police.

Ya cops piss me off, they're always up in my grill around here so I doubt the wheels would make a difference. I guess it will probably be too much with the white wheels. Just looking at the picture I posted, maybe I'll do the dark wheels and just have the lug nuts be the blue.

Or just the BMW center cap, the only problem with red is I think it would conflict with everything else on the car. Looks great on yours though.

oh right...i didn't see you have whitelines on yours. Maybe see if Vorsteiner could make you a custom blue cap. I'm not a fan of bmw caps on non oem wheels but thats just me. glad you arent going white wheels anymore lol

I wouldn't know honestly, HRE has similar wheels as well, so one of them will do what I want I'm sure. Luckily I have some months to figure it all out. Thanks for the help.

Thank you, I think it looks good, but probably not for the 550. It's a sportier look and I would worry it would take away from the 550.

Thats the most riced out e92 M3 I've seen to date lol. That car would get ripped on in the m3 section of this forum.

I too am thinking of black or gunmetal or hyperblack wheels on my AW f10. However, concerned that flat or matte finish black wouldn't go well with the gloss black trim and gloss black grille I have on the car.

I'd love to find a nice set of high gloss black/gunmetal wheels I like
