Bimmer Performance Center N57 Tuning

We are starting to see more and more of this resurface as more N57's are hitting the markets. Back in 2016 we had a customer out of state purchase a brand new 2016 535d at the time and had it shipped to us with less than 10 miles on the odometer. This was our BETA tester to get baseline pulls and start to see what the N57 was capable of.

We performed base line pulls and it ended up making about the same as the e90 M57 with numbers coming in at 238rwhp / 405rwtq. Dyno video below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhhWKxNHYfM

Stage 1 Tune, all emissions still enabled.

Stage 2, DPF delete with Custom made pipe and scr filter gutted. EGR is deleted in the tune.

Stage 3, Methanol Injection Installed. We found that with the stock turbos still in place that the turbo tapers off so much boost that a progressive controller is not beneficial and therefore the gains not really able to be seen.

Stage 4, Hybrid turbo w/ meth and upgraded intercooler
The stock turbo was sent out for larger intake and exhaust wheels with proper matching of the housings and we were rewarded with a nice boost curve that was able to keep steady across the rpm band instead of tapering off. Because of the new curve the meth injection was able to help out more but more boost will still be beneficial to the N57 motor.
For max effort a new Wagner intercooler was installed and yielded another 10rwhp.

Stock graph vs Stage 4

Since last year this 535d has been daily driven with no issues and is expected to make its way back to us soon to make more power. Stay tuned for more updates

This car has been daily driven since it got back to its owner in 2016. Never heard any complaints or issues from the owner since then

This is super impressive.
Can you give us a rundown on the work performed? (We see intercooler and exhaust?)
Is this car an xDrive?

Impressive indeed, with DPF Delete/EGR Disabled is it street legal? Will it pass emissions inspection?

I second Sedoy's question.

How is it able to pass emissions? And how is the exhaust? I would imagine it would be disgusting.

Not every state performs emissions testing. I would check with local laws to make sure your vehicle will be in compliance before performing any modifications.

When freeing up the exhaust you will smell diesel, very similar to the M57's with deletes and block offs.

Costs for upgrades

Hi Phil@BPC, just wonder what some of those costs might be? I would like to also get a little more power for mine. Do you have stages/pricing?

It would be best to email or call and ask to speak to Randall. He would be best able to quote you numbers. He can be reached at randall@bimmerperformancecenter.com or at (919) 501-2090

really beautiful work. Can't wait to see final results.

Btw. I posted on the f15 section. Do you think you or Bob could provide an answer to it?

Thank you

I will grab Bob once he is freed up from tunes and writing code. I hope to get an answer for you today/ tomorrow at the latest. Ill post answers to your questions here and in the F15 section as well.

I wish BimmerPost has a N57 section too, searching for information can be a little frustrating.

Here is what I've been able to gather. Bob is still swamped trying to catch up from all the tunes and assisting others but I still wanted to give you atleast something. From what we have seen so far personally with the N57's there hasn't been much of an issue with carbon buildup compared to the M57's. The N57 is still relatively new on the block and not many have really explored its potential or even driven it enough to see what issues lie underneath it.

We wouldn't recommend going with a tune and keeping all stock emission components on the vehicle. It can cause issues with the DPF/ SCR system.

I was told that for better details it would be best to contact us directly at service@bimmerperformancecenter.com or (919) 501-2090.

We had to close down for a few days due to a hurricane. Currently we are trying to catch up on work and get vehicles back to their owners. Will have updates soon.
