Updating Nav - Car won't read thumb drive

I've copied the 2019 maps to the root of the thumb drive, formatted as FAT32.

2015 535i xDrive

I start the car and wait a minute or two and insert the thumb drive into the usb port in the center console compartment.

Nothing.

Here's a pic of the thumb drive file layout. Did I screw something up?

Is it going to be a problem if the thumb drive is 64gb and not 32gb?

I updated to 2019-1 NA using 64 GB. I have used a Fat32 converter program on windows Os.

Did it recognize the thumb drive right away? Or did it take a while?

I waited over 10 minutes, still no reaction to me inserting the thumb drive.

I don't know what else to try.

Once I push start button, the usb is recognized. alternatively you can go to Nav and then try to update it. But I doubt it is recognizing the USB.

Can you try a FAT32 formatter and copy the files again and try it?

Did you put the files in individually?

SOLVED: When using a Mac to format your FAT32 MBR partition, be sure to clean out all of the hidden dot files MacOS like to litter the drive with.

Thanks, everyone!

Updated from 2015-1 to 2019-1. Took about 30 minutes.

did it worked ? I asked I guy I know that workes at a BMW dealer and he told me I shouldn't trust what I find on ebay cause the codes are most likely false. could you send me a link with the one you bought if it worked? Since you tested it at least I am sure it's valid. Thank you in advance !

Looks like I paid ~$14 from bimmer_fsc_code . I've had no problems loading 3 map updates. No issues at the dealer, either.

Hi Guys,
New here
Same issue. Just bought a 32GB Sandisk USB drive
Car is 2013 528i pretty sure it uses NBT
Nav system is still "Road Map North America Next 2013"
USB port works and connects my iPhone fine, in armrest
I have the 2019 NEXT software on the USB drive, its FAT32 and I made sure there are no mac files on it, I plugged the USB drive into a PC and there is JUST the 3 files and the 4 folders...
Car is on, plug into USB port in armrest, and light on USB drive lights up, nothing happens...

Would really love to figure it out, please help, thanks.

IIRC, you need to open the 4 folders and put them in the root separately, not as a whole.

Thanks for the info,

The USB drive has:

config.nfm
NBT_NANT_111174.3.111.pkg
NBT_NANT_111174.3.11.pkg.sig
folder 1
folder 2
folder 3
folder 4

I read some more threads and I just formatted my USB drive on my Mac with Terminal to make it FAT32 MBR

On the last leg of the transfer to USB drive now, will let you know if this does the trick

Thanks

Update:

Just plugged in with the new formatting...Car does not recognize update still
Car hates me

CIC updates via the glove box, not the arm rest. I think NEXT is the same.

I Only have a USB port in the arm rest to my right.
There is no USB port in my glovebox
The NAV software says "NEXT"
I thought that I was just using the wrong software when I started this venture, but I'm pretty sure its NEXT and I did my research but obviously not enough to make it work

Just looked at software version:
Screen says:
North America BMW Group 112113.2.121 Road Map NORTH AMERICA NEXT 2013
NBT_N16094A

New Question, does this system let us update to newest, or is there a map in between 2013 and 2019 that we have to update, to let it update to 2019?

Thanks

OK - I see conflicting info out there, but there are videos of some people with NEXT using armrest so maybe that's not it.

The stick needs to be FAT32. Without endorsing wherever this guy got his FSC code, here's a guy with NEXT doing the whole process:
