Another DTM post... sorry!

Just a ping to the group... got P0304 code (cylinder 4 misfire) with DTM and a miss. I'm going to conclude that it's the coil pack (60k miles). Anyone else have / had this? I'm not gonna bother with dealer if it's a cool pack.... easy enough. Need to do plugs anyways.

What kind of code reader do you have? Did you research the issue before you called to have it taken in? With as much crap as my 550 has given me in the past year a lot of it was my fault for not being a proactive owner and letting the stealershio have it at every chime.

I learned my lesson and actually go the extra mile now with my research and the pain for repairs has subsided. It helps that I have several other cars to use In downtime but if you cart it in at every DTM you're gna go broke...trust me

It's a cheap Wi-Fi OBD reader w a iPhone App. Do you think a more robust one will help? I do want to clarify I'm not just a willy nilly dealership repair guy... I usually fix things myself even under warranty if it's small, bc I can't take the hassle of stealerships

Get a more robust handheld unit. I have iCarly AND to back that up, I purchased a relatively inexpensive Foxwell unit from eBay that helps narrow things down better than the Carly app. As a bonus it also does SAS/Abs and airbag units in addition to CBS resets. Cost about $120 but has paid for itself many times over.

Whatever your issue is It sounds very minor tbh. This is a long shot here, but what grade of oil and fuel are you using? I know it sounds like a stretch but after going thru the steps you have by replacing plugs and coils earlier this year and still getting DTMs I narrowed it down the my choice of 10-40 oil and fuel octane. Changed them back to the spec in the manual and they went away almost instantly.

It's worth a shot...

The car is literally running on 4 cylinders...and barely holding idle from start up. It's not like a misfire and it coughs. I think it's something with the computer I think... I know this has failed before under warranty and I feel like it's an issue that was never fully fixed... for whatever reason. The computer was completely replaced previously.... maybe dealer screwed up reflash.

You said it coughs, does it surge when the cough happens? Did you get a code for the Cam sensors, something like a 163201 or such?

Wait, so do you think it could be sparks/coils?

My car got the dreaded DTM on Monday. Was shaking and everything. Went to dealer and they have to reprogram the whole car. Something with the VANOS timing or something.
"Program vehicle per SIB 12 26 14 (VANOS fault (SIB 12 26 14))"

But I've been driving it recently and I'm still have rough shakes/"coughs" but can't figure out why. After the reprogram, the dealer did say that:
"Turbo intake gaskets worn. Plastic components recommend replacement of both turbo intake elbows with gasket replacement (Turbo intake gaskets worn, vacuum leak contributing to rough idle)"

NOTE the car only has 43k miles.

No surge...just misfires on multiple cylinders.

Dealer notified it was a "fuel pressure sensor" and they said $433 to replace ($1600 street price so they say). I have an aftermarket warranty (GWC), to which it covered partial... which I'm sure is the egregious labor of this one dealership. I am sadly going to have to go Indy here on out... BMW doesn't even have loaners anymore.... it isn't even worth it although they are literally 3 mi from my office.
