Breaks and Rotors change in BMW maintenance program
Hi , My 2014 528i XDrive is giving vibration when I apply breaks. I visited the dealer for checkup and service adviser said Break Pads are good but Rotors are damaged. I asked him to change the Rotors as part of maintenance program ( Ultimate care +) , but Service adviser said “ as per the policy they can’t change the Rotors alone in Maintenance program without changing the brake pads. He asked me to wait until the breaks pads are completely gone or pay the money now for the Rotors to change”.
Can anyone please tell me if this is the policy or Dealer is cheating me. Note: Same service adviser asked me to buy Ultimate care + few months back as I need to change the breaks and spark plugs etc. |

I would have call him out on that.
The rotors are bad, so their policy is to change pads also. Ok, change it all! The main point is and was, THE ROTORS ARE BAD! |

This is about the relationships with your SA. I have the maintenance program expired Oct. 2018. In August, my front brakes indicated 4000 miles till replacement. I called my SA and asked him I would like to get the brakes changed before the program ends and also told him vibration during 70 mph braking. He said no problem and replaced both pads and rotors.
I gave my SA Christmas presents for the last 3 years and it definitely worked. The bottom line is your SA is giving you BS. |

After the discussion with the service adviser, I went through all the service since last year and found that the reports are inconsistent.
Break pads measurements Date Mileage Front Breaks Rear Breaks 06-JAN-2018 34235 10MM 8 MM 02-APR-2018 37451 8 MM 7 MM 09-AUG-2018 41123 11 MM 6 MM 08-Dec-2018 45369 10 MM 7 MM 10-Jan-2019 46300 9MM 5 MM as per the above reports given by the Dealer , how come the Breaks where grown from 8 MM to 11 MM between 6th Jan to April 2018 and Rear Breaks were Grown from 6 MM to 7 MM between 9th Aug to 8th Dec 2018. I thinking to go and meet with service adviser with all the records and ask for the reason and i am thinking its kind of cheating the customer. |

From my last visit to dealer, they advised rotors are no longer covered under the maintenance program, only the pads are. I am surprised they are able to cover the rotors for you.

They turn the rotors first and if that doesn't correct the vibration they replace the rotors. That was my experience.

I bought my program when car was delivered back in 2013. It states rotors are included. Unless they changed the program since.

Secondly your SA sounds like a fool. If your Brake discs (rotors) are in anyway faulty they need to be replaced and, if they are in fact covered by warranty, then they need to be replaced now and under that warranty. It shouldn't matter what condition the pads are in, the discs are ultimately more important and should dictate that the whole set is replaced. These are the most critical safety devices on your car and need to be in perfect working order and if not you shouldn't be driving the car. |

You have a maintenance program which only covers rotors if they are worn out or under spec. In this case the rotors are not worn out so they would not be covered by the maintenance contract you have.

I went through the same thing about 4 months ago. I initially requested that my rotors be changed due to vibration at highway speeds but they measured the thickness of my rotor and was told it was within spec. I had to drive it until my iDrive said it was time to replace the pads and then I took it to the dealership and had them replaced under my maintenance plan. When I made the appointment, I told them there were harsh vibrations at highway speed. It was very frustrating to be told I couldn't get them replaced when I initially contacted them but after iDrive gave them the ok, they had no problem replacing it.
