Watching this thread diligently because although the last mechanic that looked at my N63 couldn't find any issues and the car is running fine now, as soon as it gets to 3/4 of a tank it starts misfiring which leads me to believe HPFP.

I've got a Foxwell Scanner that logs freeze frame data and it hasn't given a fuel pump code, it did give a "low fuel pressure" code along with a DTM. Running fine atm but I've had to have it towed several times before...blah.

could be hpfp as well. they're only $100 and takes 30min to replace.
I had low pressure code/DTM as well on bank 2 and replaced the pump. All is good

The HPFP *was* on recall pricing until recently. The price went back up to normal gentlemen.

I recently had much drama with DTM and thinking it was coils and such, so a few tows and several hundreds (even though I had aftermarket warranty), it was the HPFP and all has been well for a few months.

I am however smelling at times some fuel, to which I thought was running a little rich. Can something leak from the pump replacement from the dealer?

Changed a few coils and plugs and went with Liqui-Moly oil and the misfires have subsided for now. Not sure if this will cure my issue but the car sure is quiet for now.

Relevance: seeing if any of this leads back to the HPFP. Just crank it up in the cold and no DTM. Will report back later.

I had a recall on the fuel pump on a 2011 550i plus Aux turbo coolers under the recall.

Btw the part was only $80 and it's the EXACT SAME part as the BMW one, even has BMW and the same part number stenciled into it. Attaching a pic of the part.

If you can change a spare tire you can do this repair. I'm just baffled at how easy this was. What prompted me to do it ASAP was because I was playing around with an Audi on the the other night and as soon as I dipped into the throttle and got to 130 mph the car bucked and just died and the HPFP code came up. How embarrassing. Attaching pics of the new part vs the old part and they're the exact same without the BMW price stigma attached. THANKS!!

In the photos new part is pictured first, old part is pictured second.
Glad it solved your issues! Just ordered HPFP for my car and can't find any good write up or diy on HPFP. I looked into TIS but it seems too over complicated. So waiting for your write up!

Hey, I did a write up and it's in the 5-Series DIY forum. The pictures are kinda out of order but not too bad and the steps are complete and to a tee! Someone on the FB group just had theirs done at the dealer and the cost was over $4k! That's fkn BONKERS! You will be done with this in no time FLAT! Like I said,!if you can change a tire you can do this. Good luck and hmu if you need any tips.

I bought bosch one from fcp $250, it looks like people used it with no issues. I saw some on ebay for $80 (the sellers stated original BMW) but they were old stack with 2011-2013 production date ( so i passed on ebay items) . The one i got from fcp is 2018, and fcp have lifetime replacement which i used couple times for my audi. Where did you get yours?

Not too worried about it because I don't plan to keep the car much longer (I've been saying that for a while though lol).
I think it had three revisions, but if ending in 5339, it's the latest.

2011 BMW 535i. I as well have the P0171 code with several cylinder misfires. On a cold start my car sounds smooth. But when the engine has warmed up and I start the engine there is a extremely loud and high pitch noise that shows up. It rough idles with the rpm going up and down around 1000rpm. Feels like the car is reving itself. But when I rev the engine up to 3000 rpm the sound goes away and it idles smoothly. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you ever gotten a DTM or CEL or ran any tools to check for faults? I would start there. Rough idle, bouncing idling and weird noises could be an abundance of things.

So im gonna share my experience, First time i had a pull to about 130 threw a DTM light, next day everything fine, forward 2 weeks later another hard launch threw a DTM light, managed to get back home with no issues, next day i started the car with rough idle, plugged into the OBD got a misfire on 5 and 6 with low fuel pressure code. So i checked the engine and saw that a seal surrounding the 5 and 6 spark plugs was leaking a little bit of oil. I bought the new head cover seal and replaced it, cleaned up all the oil and replaced all the spark plugs. Started the car with no luck, shaking and rough idle, this time 5 , 6 , 8, so i suspected that it could possible be the HPFP on bank 2, switched it sides and got misfires on 1 and 3, so after 2 weeks of scratching my brain was able to eliminate the problem.

As of now waiting on a new HPHP and hopefully that will be my source of problems, ill keep you guys updated

Seems like it was a coincidence that the leak was where the initial misfires occurred or not, still kind of confused

Bought the car 1 month ago, so I am very pissed off that i had to go trough this right away

So I got the new HPFP, well a used one from a 14' M6 apparently that's the part number on my pump. all is well now, seems to be, but now im driving a bit paranoid, any sort of shaking just make me think that the other pump might be soon to follow

For those wondering I was getting Codes P0087, P15DF, P0300. as well as 3 misfire codes, but by switching the pump back and forth, was able to determine which one it was, good luck out there !

I know exactly that feeling you're talking about when you feel a shake or hear a rub or you hear the warning indicator for the cold outside temperature, my stomach drops right out my @$$ onto my seat and then I realize nothing is wrong and my internal body parts return to their normal places. I constantly look at my RPM's watching my idle to make sure it is not fluctuating.

I probably look like a crackhead when I pull over or pull into a parking lot and I'm frantically running around placing my ear to parts of my car and crawling under the car then leaning under the hood, then my wife says "hey idiot we just need gas", haha.

The DTM ruins you for life. I have night terrors of just that dreaded BMW chime and the DTM screen attacking me and my car.

Glad you got it all fixed up.
