Mass shooting in Toronto - 12 Wounded and 2 dead

So a man described as white, 29 years old armed with a semi automatic pistol and multiple magazines opened fire on the Danforth (Greektown) at about 10 pm on a Sunday night, this area is an upper middle class area with tons of restaurants.

Police arrived on scene and exchanged gun fire with the shooter who was later found dead.

Really sorry to hear about this in such a great city as Toronto. Unfortunately, this can happen in any city. Prayers go out to the victims.

Wow, and with such strict gun laws in Canada, How could this ever happen?!? /s

These situations are so sad, how someone can think that this is the right answer.

I find it curious that you felt it appropriate to insert a sarcastic comment designed to drum up support for your own views in relation to an incident that occurred in a completely different country, with no second amendment issues, and therefore, with citizens who are generally ok with the gun laws we are required to comply with.

Had you only stuck with your second line, this would have been better received.

That's awful. There was a suspicious package that the bomb squad destroyed. Hopefully it wasn't what they thought it was.

The article written by The Star read more like a thriller action novel than news.

i wasn't overly concerned with how a comment made on a car forum would be received. This is (sadly) another statistic showing that gun control doesn't necessarily work. You inferred quite a bit from what I said.

With all these inferences you refer to...did I get anything wrong?

I don't see a lot of inference. I said it was sarcastic and that it was designed to drum up support for your own views (being that gun control laws don't work).

My point is that sarcasm isn't needed in situations such as these. One can calmly point to this incident (and others) without using sarcasm as evidence that laws didn't prevent them from happening. And better if these points are raised a little after the most recent incident to let those affected deal with their grief.

Strict gun control does not equal no violent crimes.

We have very strict gun laws, with no real impact on violent crimes.

It take a minimum of 3 months to get your licence, with tons of paper work and theoretical and practical courses needed. It also needs to be renewed every 5 years, with again a tone of paper work.

Even so, most criminals caught are found with stolen guns. Most of these from police stations and officers.

Hit the nail on the head, right there. Of course, you should put your entire comment in quotes as 'theoretical' - since it is nearly impossible to obtain a firearm for defense, and then the rules for retreat are so onerous, that it is highly likely you will end up on the wrong side of the law if used in self defense.

On a side note, where in the GP are you? Wife is from SA, we visit family there annually. My BIL lives in Sandton, other in laws are all in KZN.

I hope the city can bounce back to what it used to be 20 years ago. Toronto is seeing a lot terrorist and violence acts as of late and in my opinion starting to give the city a negative, unsafe feel. Far too many innocent people are being affected.

Why is that you think? I was in Toronto about 6-7 years ago and loved the city. I felt pretty safe.

The shooter has been identified as Faisal Hussain, 29, of Toronto. His family says he suffered from sever psychosis.....I hate go, so I'm going to leave it at that. Should be interesting to see what the next days and weeks of the investigation reveals and what the spin is.

Ive always thought it was ridiculous how Canada wont allow law abiding citizens to own handguns but somehow criminals and mentally ill people get their hands on them?

Thankful for the constitution!

So, how many gun deaths occur in Canada as compared to the United States annually?
