Is 0W-30 a gold standard for F10 (N20 engine) that drive in California?

Hello,

I am looking to change oil for someone who has F10 with N20 engine. We aren't sure what the type of oil has been used (He used to just go to JiffyLube) tbh.

I looked into the service manual and it's suggested to use this below:

SAE 0W-40, SAE 0W-30, SAE 5W-40, and SAE 5W-30

Originally, I wanted to just go with 5W-30 to buy from Walmart but, after putting in the car information, it only recommends 0W-30 and even says 5W-30 oils are not compatiable.

One example is below SAE 5W-30 from Penzzoil (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pennzoil-...0&from=/search).

Can I ignore the Walmart warning and purchase this SAE 5W-30?

You can use any oil so long as it meets the BMW LL-01 Certification.

Castrol Edge Euro is a poplular LL-01 oil readily available from Walmart.

I don't think the Pennzoil Platinum Dexos carries the LL-01 Cert.
Pennzoil Platinum Euro does, I believe.

Thank you very much!

I will be going with 5W-30. Given the temperature of the area, I think that's the best call. Will make sure i get LL-01 type oil as well.
