how to tell difference between N63 engine versions

I'm thinking about buying f06 650i or f10 550i and I know that original N63 engine (N63B44O0) is basically a horror story, I also know that they started using N63TU (N63B44O1) in 2013-2019 models and N63TU2 (N63B44O2) in 2016-2019 models, so all 2013-2015 models should have N63TU and 2016-2019 models might have N63TU or N63TU2. ideally I want to get N63TU2 and I want to know how to tell difference between TU and TU2, or even if TU/TU2 engines are actually more reliable than original N63.

(reprint from the thread started on the 6 series forum)

The n63TU engine debuted in different model years between the f10 5 series & f06 6 series.

The n63 variant is different than the n63tu/tu2 engines…you should be able to find more doing a simple google search. Here’s some charts to help figure out which models have the original N63 engine…and some of the changes to the N63TU engine vs the original N63 engine is at the bottom:

This might be a little unusual, but I’m at 133,150 miles on my n63 (non-TU) with only normal quirks for an engine with these miles. But, I have papers to back up the original owner’s maintenance, namely oil changes every 3000 miles. Knock on wood, but it’s been a reliable engine for me so far! And it’s Dinan stage 1 tuned.
