The carbon fiber intake has been anticipated, but these are the first pics. Nice clean design integrating with the strut braces.
No specific mention of new downpipes with the larger turbos - guessing that is part of the turbo upgrade ....

Spoke to Scott at Dinan and he said that Dinan will offer the turbos with a core charge for the stock turbos so that they will not cost so much money to upgrade. This is great news......No downpipe upgrade will be available with the turbo upgrades.
He also said that the car being reviewed in this article is the Dinan shop car. |

This is amazing. Did Scott tell you how much it would cost with the refund for the old turbos. PM me. and 208MPH delimited!!!!! That's faster than a Gallardo, Ferrari 458, SLS, Sl63, Aston Martin DBS, Shelby GT500, Corvette, E63, Cl63, and the F10 M5 (well while its limited haha)!!!! Sorry for the crazy "!" but I feel like a school child right now lmfao.

I asked Scott and he didnt know any prices yet.... 208MPH is awesome but I dont know if I would trust a 550 at that speed unless it has some major suspension work on it....On the other hand, I would trust an M5 at those speeds. My e60 M5 handled 160MPH like nobody's business.... Last edited by dmetuning; 04-12-2013 at 06:53 AM.. |

The review quotes $19,060 for-
we know S4 is $3899 so if current pricing holds the S6 would be $4299 Exhaust is $3599. That leaves $11,162 for the turbo and intake/struts Dinan upgrades are always pricey, but lets hope it not that pricey

Scott mentioned that to replace the turbos, its $6500 so im guessing your pretty close. Im pretty sure the cost in the article is to replace the turbos not upgrade. So.... S6=$4299 Intercoolers=$2699 Exhaust=$3599 Turbos=$6500 Intake=$1963 Total=19,060 My guess would be about $2000 for the intake and about $2000-$3000 for the turbos upgrades. We will see..... |

I've got the intercoolers on backorder from last months sale.
So possibly the intake/struts would go with a S5 software upgrade and then turbo upgrade = S6?

So does anyone know how much the turbo upgrade would cost minus the price of our stock turbos. Same for the intake?

I've got stage 4, depending on where the price comes in, I'll probably do the turbos/intake.
In hindsight I should have just gone M5 but you live and learn...

I am in the midst of upgrading my 2011 550i M Sport. I drove up to Dinan's HQ in Morgan Hill about a month ago and had the opportunity to meet Steve, Scott and some of the engineers. Steve also gave me a ride and let me drive his personal 550i and I was extremely impressed. He can flat out drive and it was very humbling to be a passenger.
Just my opinion but I see some people complain about how expensive Dinan can be. Furthermore, I get the impression that most people don't understand or appreciate the amount of engineering and time it takes to R&D and modify these cars. I know I do not post much here but some of you know may or may not know about my drag racing background. Bottom line is modifying cars is expensive. Making horsepower is expensive and in some cases you can make a lot of power but can you make it live and be reliable. I walked away from my Dinan visit feeling confident that Steve and his team are beyond competent and skillful at what they do. Without hijacking this thread stay tuned for a thread I will start about my opinions of Dinan's performance parts and tuning. So far I have Stage 4 tuning installed without intercoolers and exhaust which are going on very soon. But I am pretty damn impressed with the tuning and what's to come based on riding in Steve's car. Now I need the driver mod because piloting a 1800HP car in a straightline is easier than driving through the curves. |

But out of all available Dinan does offer the best out there I think in terms of R&D, research, ease of finding an installer (most states have at least 1-2 shops) and warranty of course. So far I've not had to use one but I haven't heard too many stories from those that did which made me cringe or gave me second thought nor have I heard a litany of horror stories about engines exploding post Dinan upgrade or suspensions or parts failing. At the price of BMW repairs these days it does provide some owners/driver that extra piece of mind that can be the deciding factor. But to each his own...after all everyone's finances and tolerances are different. however thanks for your post..would be interested to hear from others with experiences such as yours as they go thru these and any upgrades to their cars.
