Any N63/TU owners with catted DP, cat back exhaust & Tune?
I have been searching the forums for 550i owners that have added catted downpipes a tune and aftermarket cat back exhaust to see if they have any issues with their setup. The V8 is finicky so adding too much to the car might cause problems with service work via dealership and warranty companies. Let me know your experience?

I am all the above. Full SOUL Performance catback (one-off) with AR catted DP and DME Stage 2. No issues besides normal maintenance (new plugs/coils/O2 every so often).
Car runs great, and it pretty quick

Regular n63 Alpina turbos Team too fast M5 200 cell catted DPs M6 competition mid pipes welded to my factory rear pipes Muffler delete/ quad stainless tips JB4 1 step colder ngk plugs 90 degree celcius tstat Upgraded coils She's a runner owned her so far for 3 years plus some change. 122k miles on the clock. Performed valve seal repair service at 100k miles. To this day she has zero oil consumption and the power still surprises me, even at stock no addre form thanks to the alpinas and downpipes. I had OEM gutted dps and even though it sounds menacing, I hated the smell. The 200 cell cats really helped here and since they're bigger, I didnt notice any power loss. At jb4 map 1, it feels like my old jb4 stage 2 with stock turbos but much smoother. At jb4 map 2, ummmmm yeah it scares me how quick she is. So I rarely used it lol. Never tried map 7 since I need to connect fueling wires and do e85 mixture. I'm good for the moment haha. |

No, you don't have to. It helps, but you don't have to.

The alpinas were separate from bmw. I believe similar to how maybach separate from Mercedes.
Still a byproduct by bmw though. It's not like an AMG or the ///M division. They do take a regular 5 series or 7 series and beefed them up a bit but not to the point like the ///M. The turbos came from an alpina b7, with the n63 but beefed up (n63m10 vs n63b4400). They are slightly larger and can handle more boost. The alpinas came stock with I believe subpar 500 hp vs 400hp stock on 550i. Either way, they bolt up no issues at all. They wake the car up nicely. Only beneficial if tuned with a proper exhaust. Otherwise, it's just working under less stress than being in an alpina. They do cost some money. |

Yes I read a couple treads seems like they haven’t caught on due to cost compared to hp gains.
Overall I’m content with my Dinan suspension, light weight 20” and cat back exhaust. I cannot find a good tune for the N63 so there’s no need for downpipes for me unless I find a reasonable tune to harness all of the rest of the engine mods on the market. |
