I like it, the car looks amazingly powerful and there is tons of room in there. It's really a luxury family station wagon, and I would definitely buy it over the Mercedes E wagon or some other types of cars, from other manufacturers. Getting from point A to point B in sheer luxury, that's the way to travel.
* And yes, the flame suit is on :P |

This would be the ultimate multi purpose family vehicle. Love the interior, and front end!
The market has created a demand for these crossovers. BMW needs this to compete with the Porsche Panamera, and upcoming Merc R Class.

When the Z4 was introduced in Fall 2002, it got the same negative response for looks. Been driving my Z4MR for 29 months now, and I have never experienced the kinds of positive comments from onlookers as I have with this car. I suspect the GT will do the same.

Not pointless. Well targeted at an older crowd or mid-life + family that want the rear load options and roomy/airy cabin.
X6 is pointless. Was no need for it except to go after people who want a cramped SUV (as compared w/ a practical SUV) w/ coupe roofline; it's the SUV version of Merc's CLS. When I'm older I could see myself in one of these: comfortable, easy ingress/egress (limbs stiffer when older); ample room for luggage for extended road trip - in retirement ppl have the time; good vis (necks are also stiffer) + higher seating. And less-compromised center of gravity than an SUV. Lower weight -vs- say an X5 = better mpg for same engine. It's actually really well thought out: BMW is thinking ahead re what the Boomers will likely want / need.
