Climate control / Radio panel - No Power

Hi,

This morning when I started my car, there was no power in Climate control / Radio panel. Radio is still working and I can control it through steering buttons but no way of turning fan on. I suspect its a fuse but can not figure out which fuse it is. I really appreciate your help.

Thanks

I don't see any model information...so I don't know if you have the I6 or V8 configuration (help us help you better by creating a signature that contains your vehicle info...model/model year/build date/etc )

But if your model was like mine...there was a laminated fuse index in the rear fuse box...it was folded and inserted down into a holder. The little icons that represents what the fuse controls can be tricky at first...but take another look and you'll notice that the icon on the fuse index is usually the same icon on the button or knob inside the vehicle.

So the fuse that controls turning on the HVAC blower...will have the same "fan" icon that is on the button that you use to turn the system off...or adjust the blower. The fuse that controls the AC...will have the BMW historical "snowflake" icon etc.

The image below is the fuse index for my f06 650ix:

I'm having this same problem after installing a Carplay module in my car. Has anyone managed to figure out what the issue was?

I just had the same problem after installing an MMI unit in my car. In fact, I had installed one before and was swapping out for a different brand of MMI and this control panel issue happened for the first time.

It turns out the blue lock connector on the back of the climate/radio panel doesn't seat properly, and there is play in the connection. So when the cable moves, it killed power to the panel. I had to play with the connector a few times to get it to seat properly and there should be no movement in the cable it is done right. After making sure of this, the power to the panel returned and it doesn't shut off even if I jiggle the cable. To see if this is the issue, move the left cable and see if power returns to the panel if you push it in and hold.

To be honest, I am not sure what I was doing incorrectly the first few times I tried to connect it, but finally, I got it to connect firmly. Be careful as there are individual pins that could be damaged if you're not careful.

Check Fuse F11 in the glovebox and verify that A34 is grounded....A34 is FET controlled in the JBE, so if +12VDC on Fuse F11, but not GND on A34, no power to the IHKA...conversely a GND on A34, but no +12VDC on Fuse F11 will yield no power for the IHKA.

Turns out I didn't seat the connectors for the climate control panel properly/all the way, plugged them in and they work now.

Are any of you guys getting recurring error codes in IHKA (8011AF, 8011B1, 8011B3, 8011B5, 8011B7) and in ZGM (801C20)? I think these appeared only after the issue with no power to the climate panel. Specifically, the codes are:

- 801C20: CENTRAL FAULT MEMORY FULL
- 8011AF: EVAPORATOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR: SHORT TO POSITIVE OR OPEN
- 8011B1: SENSOR HEAT EXCHANGER LEFT: SHORT TO POSITIVE OR OPEN
- 8011B3: SENSOR HEAT EXCHANGER RIGHT: SHORT TO POSITIVE OR OPEN
- 8011B5: SENSOR VENTILATION TEMPERATURE LEFT: SHORT TO POSITIVE OR OPEN
- 8011B7: SENSOR VENTILATION TEMPERATURE RIGHT: SHORT TO POSITIVE OR OPEN

I think something got messed up when the climate panel lost power as it also switched off the A/C system.

Also, which CarPlay module did you guys install? I installed the Andream unit (EW-BMCP-NBT02B).

I also installed the Andream unit, but I don't have anything that scans bmw's specifically. If I ever end up getting a scanner I'll make sure to look out for these and post back.

Did you ever get any further problems? I've just change oem screen on my F11 2014 to an android screen. I now have intermittent problems with blower fan and Ac.

Did you double and triple check that the connectors were fully seated? This type of problem, especially after an install or component removal, is likely loose plugs or wires.

No power to my blower motor. Started one year after installing a MMI. I checked the blue connector several times but it did not help. Replaced blower and FSR which also did not help. I am getting the exact same Fault Codes shown above from GrabacrOne

Android head unit install ... heating issues

Hi y'all,

Just fitted an Android head unit to my F10 LCI, everything went really well, too well.
Until I re-installed the dash, climate control panel. Dead, no lights, jiggled with the two connectors ( blue and black) lights came back but would go off as I tried to fit back to the dash.intermitten power to the lights and volume control.

Finally, got the lights working, fitted back... no air out of the vents. So disconnected everything again.
As I tried to close the car and leave, (control panel disconnected) noticed the blower was still operating, even with car ignition off !
Jiggled with the rear connectors, finally everything turned off.

Next day I checked ALL the fuses nothing dead. Thought it may be the head unit and was going to disconnect everything to isolate that as the problem, but it is on an entirely different, so dismissed that.
Wracking my brain I went through the entire process in my mind.
Two problems arose, firstly, refitting the blue connector I had rotated the connector and figured maybe I had caused a short in the pins, but the fuses were all fine.
Secondly, fitting the connector in the correct orientation, I had slipped and the connector went in partially as I pushed in the locking tab. I re-installed everything properly but the symptoms were still there, no blower, or blower on and could not control its speed or turn it off. No demisters, front or rear. no AC.
I started to google for the FSU resistors as they present similar symptoms, but could not understand how or why that would fail all of a sudden. Everything was perfect the day before.
Then I found this thread..... Another day of messing around and finally found the problem.

AC not blowing

I have the same problem.

Reset blue and black connectors, lights now work and radio works.

No AC but controls light up and temperature numbers go up and down.

Any ideas on how to fix?

It seems that this common issue occurs when reconnecting the blue AC/Radio connector.

Hey all... Same issue here with my 2014 535d. Bought the kit from Andream, went through all the install procedures, fired it up and IT WORKED FIRST TRY! I was kinda surprised, but then noticed the climate controls were dark. Tinkered, and failed to fix it. Found this thread and fixed it!

Ultimately, per the advice above, it was the blue connector on the back of the climate control panel. I used some electrical contact spray cleaner on the male and female sides, and made sure the blue cable connector was seated like the black one (that seemed to seat properly more easily). Make sure the gap between the cable head and the seat are flush...compare it to the black one to make sure since they sit the same. Been working fine ever since!

I just wanted to share so hopefully this helps someone else. It's a strange problem that can feel pretty baffling. Good luck!
