In Market For 5 Series!

Folks,

In the market for a 5 series. I've had a landfall of cars, but need something a bit bigger than my Fiesta ST. I'm 6'4, almost 6'5 and having RA, with other health issues makes getting in and out of the car a pain.

I'm currently looking at getting a 2011 535. Seems like the 28s had issues and the 550s might be a bit too much for me.

Anything in particular to look at? I've never owned a car with 100k miles, but that seems to be in the price range.

If you're having any trouble getting in/out of a car may I suggest an SUV? The 5 is, IMHO, rather low as cars go.

That said, I love our 2 (2012 & 2014) 535i's.

I agree with ezaircon4jc. The 5 series is a short car and low to the ground. I think you will be more comfortable in an SUV or a crossover especially if you are having RA problems.

That's a fair point.

I haven't sat in one in a while. It doesn't help I have extremely long legs and large feet (size 18s). At this point, I'd assume anything is better than my Fiesta ST.

I've been considering the X6. I'm a big fan of their look.

I have arthritis in my neck and back and avoid SUV's for one main reason: unless it's a Suburban which is rock solid on ride, I get "head toss" sitting higher up especially with a sport suspension. My friend's early Porsche Cayenne was unbearable for me as a passenger.

The 5 series is low as are all performance sedans, so that is a consideration, especially entry/exit for a "big and tall" frame like mine, but I find the f10 to be acceptable enough.

In 2014 the f10 LCI likely firmed up the suspension of the standard 5 series, so you should probably try it (be careful about checking tire pressure to make sure its right) and you may find the 2011 to be soft enough for sure.

You are going to find that sitting high vs low have their own problems.
You can find plenty of people on both sides of each camp.
All they can do is tell you their experience.
You really need to try each to find which one helps you best.
Love my 535 but I have back problems which makes it a struggle to get in and out.
For right now I'll just suffer through that part.

I'll stay hot on my 5 series pursuit then. I've thrown in the e60 as well. Although I do prefer the F10 look.

If you're looking for a 5 series, and given the comfort issues, I suggest looking for one equipped with the upgraded seating packages (multi-contour seats and potentially the massage function). The multi-contour seats adjust in almost every way imaginable and might really help you in finding a comfortable position. The massage function isn't a traditional massage, but rather it alternately elevates each side of the pelvis slightly to relieve pressure, which can really help with lower back comfort on longer trips.

If the ones with only 100k are in your budget, you may want to consider an extended warranty for powertrain.
