Yes, D is the firmware version; therefore, you do not have the latest.

Updating BT Media & Communication, alone, will not change NBT_Dxxxx.

There are for the small BT Media & Communication *.bin's. There are not for the computer ECU firmware updates.

So, if your existing BT Media & Communication is greater (eg, MN/TN-003.002.001), then update will fail.
Finally drove the car so got to check. Both MN and Phone (doesn't say TN) is 003.013.01...

That is the latest version.
So, attempting to install UPD05074.bin (MN-002.255.071, TN-002.255.070) would fail.

You can also check compatibility.
  • All Apple products I select, it says no email support.
  • For Android, it says no for Pixel XL; but, yes for Galaxy S7. There is the following note:
    • "It is recommended to use e-mail app from manufacturer for optimal transmission of e-mails. Currently transmission of e-mails is not available with Gmail app.
    • In order to be able to display e-mails in the vehicle, the mobile phone must be set up correctly for e-mails."

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!! That explains it!

Makes me wonder why BMW's update site says that update is applicable to my VIN...

Each time your vehicle has service, a report is sent to the motherland. But, those servers do not necessarily sink back to ConnectedDrive portal. As such, it can lead to confusion.

Though, that is why it is nice that release notes are posted, so you can see exactly which version the update contains.

THANKS for the explanation. Having worked for the Gummint my whole career I understand the lack of communication between entities.

How would one interpret the release date as it applies to the each car? Does the type of service matter? I bought the car used...

Which release date?

Each service does not result in vehicle programming. But, each service involves scan with ISTA+ which communicates back to BMW as well as online systems can lookup previous service history.

Hi Almaretto , would have PMd but need 1 post (which is this!),

I am trying to find as much information as I can about the NBT system and you seem to know alot about it!

I have come from a 2016 M135i with NBTEvo to a 2015 535D with NBT. I have updated the media / phone via the bin update (02.225.070 / 071 / 072) and updated the maps to 2017-1 (Europe), but upon reading your posts and searching the internet, my istep(?) isn't the latest NBT_I14472A and I saw that the latest NBT from one of your posts was O I think? Is there a change log for I to O out there?

I noticed on my NBTEvo when I plugged my phone in, it would load up all the apps that were compatible with the car, Spotify and ConnectedDrive apps without me doing anything. On this I have to open the app myself for it to play anything via the cable.

Is it possible to update the NBT firmware? If so, how? I have downloaded esys / pzdata (lite) / ISTA-P (I think) but not sure where to start as there are many guides out there for coding various tweaks but not updating the firmware. I haven't coded anything yet as I am guessing it will just wipe it with a firmware update.

Would it be possible to give me a detailed guide?

Thanks,
Feeps

There are never change logs or release notes. And, software updates rarely, if ever, come with new features. They are more to improve the functionality of existing.

HU_NBT and HU_NBT2 (AKA EVO) are two different systems. Plus, the ladder has multiple versions.

It is possible to update the firmware. This is done with either ISTA+ with SDP & an ICOM, ISTA-P with ICOM or ENET, or E-sys with ENET or ICOM and PSdZData_FULL. The process, though, is riskier than coding and requires a PSU.

CIC system

Hello,
Sorry to be bringing up an old thread. I have an '11 f10 with CIC. I have connected drive on my car but tethering does not work with an iphone 6. It tells me to activate data services or something.
I thought maybe updating the media system would help. So i downloaded the latest software shown on the website which is UPD01008 and installed it but my bluetooth data services still dont work.... I know there are newer versions out there, however 1. I dont know where to get them from, and 2. if they would be compatible with my system. For ex. would an NBT update work on mine?

Would an update even help with my data services situation? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks!

Only two places to get:
  1. BMW Website
  2. Flash Programming
Software is head unit specific. You cannot load NBT on CIC.

Thanks for your reply. I guess I am stuck with UPD01008

Hi Almaretto ,

What is the latest software? I had my dealer update my istep (4 months ago) to O and also on MN/TN-003.002.001 but when I put my chassis number in the update website it returns UPD05062 (23.1 MB) as the latest.

Having a few issues with contact syncing, as in when someone calls the number appears in the idrive and not the contact name, tried deleting and unpairing but has no resolve so was wondering if there was a newer update out?

Thanks!

Latest is MN/TN-003.013.001. You would have to check release notes for UPD05062, but UPD05074 is older than your firmware.

Hi, the release notes state MN-2.255.60, TN-2.255.62 for UPD05062 which is older than what I have applied.

How do you download the latest as BMW doesn't seem to let me get the latest update via the website?

Do we know when MN/TN-003.013.001 was released?

Thanks for your replies

The only way to download latest is with complete head unit firmware and flash program.

Files are encrypted and cannot easily be assembled as *.bin to install via usb.

That version was released last Fall and included in February, April, May, and June releases.
