HELP 2011 535i transmission issue
I was driving home on the highway at about 75. The gear icon and transmission malfunction popped up on the i drive briefly and went away. When i got off the highway the car down shifted normally. Then when i went to accelerate again trans popped straight into 6th with the warning light on. The car is FBO and running xhp. I used xhp to pull the code and its showing as 0x420022 EDS B short circuit to positive. Any one ever have a similar issue. Also to note i never had any issues prior trans shifted fine and smooth. Thanks any input is definitely appreciated.

If you remove xhp flash does it occur?

Yea its the zf 8 speed. Its just crossed over 100k the previous owner listed it as 1 of the things he did right before selling it. Of course there is no way for me to actually verify if he did or not.

It appears that "EDS B short circuit to positive" is a solenoid code from the mechatronic (valve body) unit. It could be a faulty or dirty solenoid. You could try removing the mechatronic and carefully clean it, especially the solenoids. If I were bothering to remove the mechatronic unit I would also install this: https://www.sonnax.com/parts/4590-zip-kit

Or to verify that the previous owner used the correct fluid. Incorrect fluid could affect solenoid function. A good affordable first step would be to do a filter and fluid change with the correct ZF8 fluid to see if it improves the condition. If it doesn't, then you have a better understanding that the valve body may need to be dropped.

Mine took a few more, just have to make sure car is running and went through gears and top off till it starts dripping then plug it. I used the liqimoly kit no issues.

1 question though maybe some one can help with. In all the videos it says to shift through the gears. My problem is that my trans will only allow 6th. I can delete the code through xhp and MHD. But it pops back up. |

I had a 2006 BMW 550i and the whole engine was rebuilt at 120k and then the tranny finally failed at 140k

You can only do what you can - make sure you get the R and D part. FYI - the "foot on brake" part seems to be in question. Some of the instructions from ZF seem to have the wheels needing to spin. For what it's worth, a ZF8 that's stationary will only allow you to select R, 1 and 2 so without releasing the brake there will be nothing above 2 for 10 seconds. FWIW - ISTA+ has a full procedure telling you what to do and keeping the temperature reading on the screen at the same time. Just keep clicking NEXT and it lays it all out. If you're in full limp mode, stuck in 6th, personally I don't have a high degree of confidence that a fluid drain/replace is going to solve the issue without at least taking something apart in the mechatronic and cleaning it. I'll be tuning in for your updates though. |
