Thermostat replacement
a visit to the dealer has been a nightmare.
first it was the gasket for the oil pan now they are saying I also need the following items. Sparkplug replacement--431 MicroFilter -- 180 Oil Pan Gasket- 2191.00 Thermostat Replacement- 798.00 sos emergency call malfunction- 725.00 Is changing the Thermostat pretty something that I can do at home? Seems expensive. I would hate for my car to over heat. ughh. Thermostat housing leaking coolant. |

spark plugs and microfilter are easy to do. The back 2 are annoying because of the rubber matt (which I got rid of) and the crossover cables (brackets held in place on either side by 2 torx screws) but not impossible.
The thermostat isn't hard per say, but you need to have patience to get to it as some of it you have to feel your way around (kind of crammed in there if you have big hands), but certainly not too difficult. An afternoon on a Saturday and a beer should be more than enough.

Water pump is a bit harder. Especially if you have active sway bar. But best to do them together. Make sure you also get 1 gal coolant and 1 gal distilled water

If you are having the dealership change the spark plugs for you, then the thermostat might be a little difficult for you. The spark plugs are easier to do, still a little process, but easier.
Depending on your mileage, the thermostat is usually done in conjunction with the water pump. The reason is to do the coolant system once and the thermostat has to be removed to get the water pump removed. If you haven't done something like this before, plan double the time to do it and perhaps have a buddy join you who has more experience. Search water pump changes so you can get an idea of the work and the parts. 95blkmax The rubber isolator over the rear spark plugs are not just there for noise suppression. The rear doesn't have the rubber isolator that the engine cover does. The rubber isolator doubles to block exhaust/turbo heat to prevent heat soak of the fuel rail. I would return the rubber isolator if I were you.
