My F10 trunk open too fast
My F10 Trunk open too fast, should i replace the
"Tension Spring Tailgate" #51247204367 or "Tension Spring Boot Lid-Tailgate" #51247204366 or both? Thank you |

I believe 51247204367 (the one on the US passenger side) is the spring with an actual gas strut inside the spring and costs around $50. That is the one to replace to slow down the opening/closing of the trunk. The one on the driver side has something inside the spring as well, but it isn't the same, thus the reason its cheaper (I think that one is $20-30). I also just did it 2 weeks ago, fixed the issue of the trunk flying open too quickly.
If you end up doing it yourself, there isn't a DIY but you can get to the spring without having to totally gut the right side interior liner. Just remove the 2 round push in clips and gently bend the liner. Tip - after you get the ball joint off the mount that is closest to the rear bumper, pivot the whole assembly down and through the Fuse Panel door.... that angle will release the back side hook. Then just do the same in reverse to swap in the new one. G luck. Last edited by jdmfrogg; 02-21-2017 at 05:14 PM.. |

I dragged my feet fixing mine (535i month 1 production) and it flew open and shattered the rear window. $420 for a new window later, I'm trying to fix the trunk. I replaced the right spring/strut unit with a new unit from the dealer, but it still flies open. I am unsure whether the left has something to do with the speed of opening as well? It closes FAST...like drops hard. Any ideas???
