Getting new rims and wheel serviced. Need help!!
It's my first post here since I just got my first BMW less than a year ago. From the Vossen Close out sale I am interested in their CVT model but I have no idea about the fitment. I own a 2014 F10 528i base model and I have a few questions:
1. Is it possible to switch from Run flat to non-RF tires? And what brand should I stick with? 2. Which size of the CVT should I get for my car? 3. The guy at my local BMW service told my I needed to get the wheels aligned and he advised me to get the service package for $500. Am I getting finessed? I thought it would be great to get answers from the experts here in this forum rather than being finessed out there. Thank you all in advance. |

The only thing I would say is don't go for cheap tires in the sense of budget brands. Just because our cars are expensive and sometimes saving a $100-$200 dollars can lead to larger issues. 2. Which size would all depend on what size you are going for. I also have a 528i and have 17's stock. If I was upgrading I would go to 19's as I feel that's a sweet spot but it would be your personal preference. Hopefully that offers some insight and hopefully someone can chime in on the alignment. |

i had to look up what these wheels looked like and now i remember. here's some YouTube videos when they first came out
the specs on these wheels are 20x9 and 20x10.5 if you want 19's you can go with 19x9 and 19x10.5 i couldn't find the offsets on these but usually when you tell them the make and model they already have the specs accordingly now if you're asking me IMHO if you plan on going with aftermarket wheels 17-19's look way too small on our F10's. it just looks out of place. now stock 17-19" BMW wheels look fine. also, do you plan on lowering your F10? as far as RF VS non RF's tires if you search here in the forums it's a topic that's literally been beatin' to death. in my experience hands down the best thing i've ever done when i switched over to non RF's! that $500 service package is garbage and a waste of money. that's basically if you order through BMW they will cover any defects or the wheel color fades. curb rashes are not covered due to the fact that's on you. anytime you get new tires it's always recommended to get the alignment done.

@lsturbointeg out of curiousty where would you recommend getting the alignment done. Just got new tires and the stealership quoted me I believe $250 for an alignment. Is there any special equipment that the BMW needs. First BMW so not so sure.

Yes, BMW does a "special" alignment. Done the BMW way they put a (IIRC) 175# sandbag/weight in the driver's seat to simulate, well, a driver. That weight will affect the alignment; how much I don't know. These days $250 for an alignment ain't, IMHO, half bad.

because i'm on KW's my car was too low to get on BMW's alignment rack so i ended up driving 1.5hrs away to a shop called GermanAutoPros but that's out here in Butt nowhere OHIO i'm sure the local Cali members will chime in. but like ezaircon4jc mentioned there's a special way of aligning our cars using sandbags.

Just took my car to a car shop today and got some services done for a really great price: alignment : $100, wheels rotation: $20, oil change: $60. Even though I'm in California but going to a reliable car shop and paying less than $200 for these done I'm not complaining.

No it's mobil 1 synthetic oil. Regular oil change is like 20-25 here in Socal LOL
