Drivetrain error
Had my car 6 weeks and this has appeared 6 times now. Each time it has gone out within 10secs and leaves no trace. There is nothing on the Check Control, nothing on the error codes in the 'secret' dashboard entry and I have checked with my OBD device and nothing shows up.
The first 3 times it showed when I was on cruise control on the flat, no real acceleration. Then it went quiet for a few weeks. Now, it's shown up under acceleration, although not particularly harsh. I've read earlier posts and other forums, but none describe the error where it just disappears. Is this really something I should worry about, or could it just be hesitation in a valve or something similar? If I take it to BMW, there won't be anything to show them on the OBD, or do they have more intrusive equipment? |

Having had it appear a few more times, I took it back to the service centre. They diagnosed it as 'charge air pressure too low', and said it would need a software update, which would take a few hours, to be done another day.
Doing some research, this appears to be less of a software issue, more of a leak issue, with others having loose couplings and split hoses etc Any ideas? |

Still regularly popping up on system 'Drivetrain Error, drive moderately..blah, blah' but no loss of power or codes in system. I'm inclined just to ignore it as a glitch but it may become an issue when I try to sell, I suppose.

Even if there is no record of the fault being retained, you DO have the display when it happens, and (almost certainly) a phone with a camera on it ... I'm sure you can put the rest of it together.
You have the legal RIGHT to have the car repaired. |

No, I was daft enough to buy from Big Motoring World, and they haven't exactly covered themselves in glory with their customer service. They've had the car four times and nt found the fault

That's OK, because you show them the fault as recorded, therefore proving the fault exists. You then explain to them (possibly using really small words and speaking very slowly) that you know your legal rights, and you therefore expect them to investigate the fault properly.
If they don't feel they are competent to investigate the fault, then you can even help them out by telling them that you're entirely willing to take the car to a BMW dealership for investigation ... at their expense. |
